I'm wasting R558.69 every month, how do I save?

I've got DSTV Premium with a SD PVR and M-Net, total cost each month works out to R558.69.
We hardly watch M-Net anymore, would it be worth it to
1). cancel the M-Net?
What would my monthly subs work out to?
or
2). Can I keep my PVR functionality and use DSTV Compact with M-Net.
What would that monthly cost work out to?

You can't cancel mnet and keep DSTV premium... they're a single package..

I dunno about using the PVR with DSTV Compact and you can't get Mnet seperately on that bouquet i don't think...
 
We canceled DSTV 4 years ago - never missed it.

We take out DVD contracts every few months (R100 lasts us 3 mths). Just got a standalone PVR and there is more than enough to watch on public channels. I actually have to delete stuff I have not watched yet.
 
You can get DSTV compact on PVR.

The cost of getting compact + Mnet + PVR is more than just getting premium + PVR

Sheesh, and I was thinking of getting an HD PVR.
 
Use the money to buy a HTPC.
Everyone has series these days...

I watch a lot and there is a TONS I havn't seen yet. Its nice watching your favourite series without the adverts to :)
 
As a matter of interest, where can one access these internet tv stations?

Legally, what is available on free TV stations?

Because if we are going the illegal route, you could always steal money, commit fraud, or similar, and use the money to pay for DSTV... or just steal the DVDs you want to watch from video stores.
 
Downloading TV series that Americans get to watch for free is not stealing. I'm not worth less than an American thus I feel it's ethically sound do download series and watch them at the same time as they do.

They aren't free in America... so don't they charge for TV channel subscriptions, etc?

2) Buy a big fat 1TB Hard Drive
3) Visit one of your dodgy friends
4) Slap it in his PC
5) Go home, and enjoy lots, and lots and lots of True High Definition 720p DVD Quality Series that will only come to SA in the far,far future, without any advert breaks or sht like that.

watch a half a series or so, back to back on a sunday afternoon with a 2 litre coke and a pack of cheese curls - that's how it's meant to be watched.

After the episode has been screened you can watch it for free on the Fox website. Just not if you're IP address is from SA.
 
The only way DSTv will become cheaper is if they lose too many customers each month....
Everybody just needs to copy the living s*** out of each others Hard Drives.

Don't like watching on a small 19" Screen? Plug the PC into your TV with video out, or connect it to your HD TV via HDMi Output, or use a media centre - thats what its there for.

Monochoice must realize that if they make it too expensive for an average person to use their service, that we will find other ways - and as more and more people start doing it, you're gonna lose customers quickly.

Once the average guy learns that a Media Centre costs R1800 and a new Decoder costs R2500 with a monthly price tag of R500+, he'll go for option A. (especially if he learns the shows are newer, higher quality, and advert free)

Guys, most of you calling for the benefits of downloading series etc are different to a number of people who have DSTV. If you had a 1 year old, a 9 year old and a girlfriend/wife you would no longer be able to just pander to your own needs with your 1Tb hard drive. There are cartoons and channels like Ceebeebies that babies seem to love! Yes, I have some kiddies series on a hard drive but unless you want to go insane watching the same stuff over and over you cannot keep up with their demands. Then the GF/wife has her series that she wants to watch. Yes, the argument will be that if I so desired I could download all of that stuff online but with bandwidth costs and storage costs it sometimes seems easier to just press the on button on the DSTV!

A further argument to add to this is that you are not able to watch live SA sport with your HDD, so as wonderful as your ideas sound some of us will still "need" DSTV. I want my rugby on my TV on the weekends without spending a couple of hundred rand going to a pub to watch.
