Sierra Wireless Card with PCMCIA adapter

Hi - I am trying to use an Aircard 775 with a PCMCIA adapter in a desktop machine. (I have another card working perfectly in a laptop.)

BUT - on the desktop I cannot get past the "searching" stage in the Watcher window.

Has anyone tried this combination?

Does anyone have any suggestions about what could be the problem? (I am guessing signal strength, although I CAN make calls from right next to the desktop). Could there be internal interference of some sort?

Ok, finally got it to work in the PCMCIA adapter by tilting the desktop at 45' to get better signal. But this was very unreliable so I persuaded the user to buy a laptop instead since Sierra Wireless site says PCI adapters are not really a supported configuration.

I feel the signal strength was the main culprit here.

Now I'm having a new problem with the Aircard (see http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=28646 ) ... :(
