Howzit guys,

Has anyone driven the new diesel Cruze? I believe its very good. I'm considering the various options in the C segment but was always weary of the Cruze because of the underpowered petrol motors. Has that changed with the diesel?

I would not expect a diesel motor to be better than a petrol engine, that said, they do all kinds of trickery to the diesels these days so you never know. Best advise I can give you is to make the effort and take one for a test drive. Only you can decide whether it delivers to your expectations or not.

Thats what I thought, but all the reviews Ive read say that the diesel is much better performance wise. Not sure if anyone out there has driven the diesel yet and can give some advice?

How much does a Golf 6 diesel cost? Coz the Cruze is meh.

Its just under R300k. Which is a bit more expensive than the Cruze, about R35k. But the Golf is rather small in comparison.

The Golf is small compared to the Cruze, really? I thought they were both C-segment.

Sorry I meant specifically due to the Cruze being a saloon and the Golf being a hatch, the boot size discrepancy. Space inside the cabin feels plus minus the same.

See, I always think of a hatch as being more practical, as you can fold down the back seats and now have a mini panel van.

That is very true. You do have a load space that can swallow much larger items in a hatch. Even if the seats fold down in the Cruze the boot opening isnt going to swallow a big item.

I recently took a trip in a friend's Golf 6 1.4 TSI and I couldn't believe how small the interior is particularly the leg room on the back seat.
It's a beautiful car inside but it's definitely not designed for people over 6 feet tall.
