I am getting conflicting views from the call centre. Some say it ended 31 July. Some say it looks available on their system but they cannot guarantee I won't be charged R389 on my next billing cycle.

It's no longer available on my FNB online banking - so I would assume that it finished on the 31st as planned.
There was a thread here the other day....
I did not read it. Maybe find it and see what was said in there.
Found the thread...

Good news for consumers is that MTN has extended its R149 for 2GB special until further notice, which means that customers will still be able to purchase the promotion after the end of July. MTN previously planned to end the promotion tomorrow (31 July 2012).
No MTN reps here on myBB to comment please.?
The call centre agents leave much to be desired...they a bunch of uneducated dimwits that say things without really knowing. They say they are being recorded ...hopefully they'll get fired.
no official rep unfortunately : (- the one that was here disappeared - there is Voldemort but dont like to bother him with stuff like this, not saying he wont try and help but chances are he will get the same answers we do.
I was hoping to check on mtn active if i could activate it, but cant login to even check for some reason
Some times the internet is so slow, it would be faster to just fly to Google's headquarters and ask them this $h1t in person.!
Ah I managed to login, looks like its over, cost for 2Gb is R 389.00

I also went to a MTN shop today, the 2GB for R189 is definitely over :-(
I'm ashamed of South Africa. It's an absolute disgrace that you can pass matric with a mark of 30 percent." - Jonathan Jansen
I phoned in this morning to inquire about data bundles, one of MTN's sharpest tools by the name of Kem Bhugwandeen advised me to load airtime and then buy the 2GB bundle for R189.00, I have done this only to find that I can not see the promo using the *141*6# USSD code.
After another call it is now clear that MTN's call center staff do not know the difference between their own ******* and their elbow!
CellC is really looking good at the moment. I refuse to pay R389 for 2GB of data. As an existing customer it is clear that MTN does not give a single F%$# about me!
Good thing my contract expires in 3 months.
