Hi all,

just recently received a Rasberry Pi fresh from the UK as well as the Slice of pi/o breakout board!

For those of you who don't know the Raspberry Pi is a small credit card sized Linux PC. More info here.

I'd like to know how many of you own one and what have you assigned it to do?

Mine is going to be set up as a HTPC since the size and Ethernet port make it perfect for my use. I am busy waiting to order a digital TV receiver and a USB hub. :D

I have had mine for about 5 months now. And its working as my htpc. No more fans or a big pc case next to the pc.

Had issues with HD content but since i put raspbmc rc5 on it its working like a dream.

Getting my second one in about a month, the newer model so i am going to use the old one as a torrent box.

The rasp pi is an awesome little piece of hardware

ive also had a problem with HD content! think i must find the RC5... I also want to get the 512MB version now. just trying to find someone that sells locally...

Electrocomp in Pinetown are the Farnell agents.

No - the 14 week+ wait time scared me off. Busy repurposing an old android phone as a FTP server & nzb downloader though...

Ok awesome! should be up that way on Thursday! :D

They don't keep stock of the Pi's, but order when you place yours, should take a few weeks still.

Maybe some forumites are looking to sell theirs? A lot rushed out and ordered initially, and they have them still in the original boxes doing diddly-squat, so maybe it's worth an ask?

Technically, I do since I've paid for one. Just waiting for delivery... tick tock, tick tock.

Also, amazing how often stuff gets regurgitated on MyBB. Just in this last week we had these discussions:

i did do a quick search but it came up fruitless (pun not intended)

pitty no one keeps stock of them :( but i am in no rush to get a second yet

What are you planning to use the Slice of PI/O breakout board for?

The 512MB version is pretty new, don't think too many peeps will be selling these. The people who ordered early and have them lying around will most probably have the 256MB versions.

TBH I actually don't know what I'm going to use it for yet. I Might do some home automation sometimes with a nice little web interface.... but that's waaay down the line.

And yeah I thought the same... October might have been a while back but I doubt there are meany 512 versions around.

Hi jay-co

Wanna find out what issues you had with HD content. I've installed the latest RaspBMC on my Pi but wether I watch my SD series or 720 or 1080 movies I get constant buffering. Like 6-9 buffers per minute which totally defeats the purpose of relaxing with something to watch lol.

SD content buffers like 6-9 times per minute as well as the 720 content. The 1080 content does noy play and when it does and it buffers then the buffer takes soooooo long. I'm at my wits end as I dunno what to do. I've increased the buffer size as mentioned on quite a few google searches.

All my content is on my main pc with about 6 hdd's totalling about 3TB and of course streamed over my home network.

Any help will be appreciated

Are u streaming over wifi or over ethernet?

I initially used my as an HTPC, but got irritated with streaming HD problems.
So I installed a DLNA server for my TV, a Samba server, SABNZBD, Sickbeard and couchpotato.
Works like a dream now :)

It automatically downloads all my series for me, puts them onto my hardrive (which is now accessible on any device on my network) and streams them to any DLNA compatible device on the network.

I'm streaming my content via ethernet.

I have a PC in my lounge which works fine and have no problems watching any content. It's the Pi that's giving me grey hairs

are you using smb share?
i did that and there was issues.
HD content "sukkeled" but SD content played fine. now everything plays fine.
plus i set the speeds of the PI to fast rather than normal
so i tried upnp rather, it uses the xbmc libraries on the main pc.

only downside is that xbmc has to be running on the main pc.
but it works like a charm.

and all the content is scraped on the main pc.

hope it helps

I was also going to suggest this.

does it keep your library in sync? i.e. if you watch it on the pi, does it mark as watched on your other library?

Yes I'm using SMB. Will check how to set upnp up and try that then.
So I have to install XBMC on my main pc? And it must always be running? Sucks man...

Anyway will check it out later.

Thanx man

OH!!!!!!

Does the XBMC install on my main pc need to be the same as the one on the Pi?

no it doesn't have to be the same version xbmc

and it doesn't mark it as watched on the main pc

but its alot better than constant buffering :)
