Can I get a laptop for R1000.00?

Um, I'd have to go for No again. Try R4k or R5k. (through distrib. of course)
 
Even at 5k, there's not "a reasonably good one", unless you only want to type and send emails (and nothing else)?
 
dude go buy the junkmail and look for a second hand place cant remember there name

they had decent laptops second hand at good pricing
 
i think it is possible, if you have a bit of luck.

last weekend i picked up a laptop for my kid, not great specs, but more than capable for coursework etc.

p4m-1.5ghz
512mb ddr
40gb hdd
15" xga lcd
It was ex-demo/used.

all working fine for the princely sum of R1250.
I admit it was a lucky/good deal, but this is proof that you can still get the stuff.
 
Dell was flogging some fairly bottom of the range laptops last year for about £300 a pop - nothing to write home about but they seem to get the job done.
