Pta, Garsfontein (012 998....) - Yes, though only achieving a stable sync and download at 8Mb/s. Upload 0.75Mb/s.

i still think it is all a bunch of crap, if they could not 'upgrade' all the 4mb users to 10mb they should have offered the 10mb as a new service and you can then upgrade if you want to. Now some people get the 'upgrade' while others get the run around when asking what is going to happen in your area. in the mean time pay the same as the guys getting the 10mb service, sux.
2 products make sense: (even just the second one might make sense)
A cheap fixed speed option (256 - 512 kbps somewhere)
An option that will run at whatever speed your line is stable (up to 20Mbps for ADSL2+) It should be ensured that the line is table and runs with a decent SNR margin
Additionally: (possibly a basic (say, 64kbps) free option activated by default if you are on some kind of port that supports ADSL by just enabling it (ne extra cabling)) (no modem, filters, ISP account, etc supplied)

The ISPs can then fight about account speed / sell large amounts of data as users use a lot more than they want to...

Checker not working or 10mbs scam?

Being bored I thought I give the telkom website a work out and tried the dsl and 10mbs checker for the Roodepoort exchanges using 011xxx9111 as the test number.
Results were consistent. DSL is available, but not a single exchange in Roodepoort is offering 10mbs.
So either the checker is not working or Telkom is pulling a huge scam with advertising a service that simply is just not generally available.

Exchanges checked:
DOBSONVILLE: 011989, 011988
DOORNKOP: 011272
FLORIDA: 011858, 011758, 011674, 011672, 011671, 011670, 011472, 011471, 011470, 011222
HONEYDEW: 011795, 011794
MAIN REEFS: 011765
PANORAMA: 011831, 011679, 011675, 011475, 011246
ROODEPOORT: 011768, 011767, 011766, 011763, 011761, 011760, 011279, 011271
RUIMSIG: 011958
WILROPARK: 011764
WITPOORTJIE: 011769, 011762

Is anyone on these dialing codes getting 10mbs?

something's not right though. If you can upgrade you get the message "Your exchange supports up to 10Mbps fastest ADSL. The provision of such a service is subject to port availability, distance, copper quality and line sync speed limitations."

Errr if not port avail, distance, etc, what does the online app check?
You might get 5Mb - 9Mb as well?

What I dont get, is that when I switch my Billion to ADSL2+, it syncs with no problem, yet the availability checker states nay. I don't get it.

It should fallback to ADSL if ADSL 2+ is not avaialble... It might also sync at ADSL2+ but without the rest of the infrastructure (Metro Ethernet backhaul) If it is syuncing ADSL2+ is might probably get updated quicker than if the DSLAM need replacement as well...

Dis entlik n groot pot k@k hierdie, hoe die hel moet die res van die mense voel wat die selfde geld betaal? En ek praat nie eers van die arme 384 mense nie!

I seriously dont understand what Telkom is trying to achieve with these selective upgrades, this will only serve in alienating a lot of customers and keep 19k happy.

Yes I hear you, weird though because I am sitting in Sunninghill, like blocks away from Megawatt park, but ya, sigh still heh.

Telkom ADSL upgrade tool is not Fully functional

I have been testing my line upgrade possibility with the that tool since last week Sat (14th, August), i eventually phoned telkom and they confirmed that i will be upgraded as my exchange supports the upgrade, they could not confirm when though. However all of this despite the fact that the tool (ADSL checker link) says i am not capable of receiving an upgrade.

I am convinced that the tool is not accurate!

I am in the Pretoria- Faerie glen region. (older part of faerie glen.)
Does anyone know if i can believe telkom ? or have any more info on Faerie glen, close to old farm..??

STILL NO UPGRADE!

Thanks!

I wholeheartedly agree! I wish a legal expert would give his opinion on this as I am sure this is discrimination. How can people be charged the same price for different services. I can understand that not everyone will get the full 10Mbps due to various factors, but the difference between 4Mbps and 10 Mbps for the same price is a bit off.

Constantia Cape Town - yes

damn, available but can't afford it!

Hi farimir,

The problem is Telkom will be able to get away with it as they will replace the current upto 4MB with .....you guessed it upto 10MB so therefore those who cannot achieve it will therefore not get it unless (read below)

I do however believe that due to the current mass amounts of us wanting this higher speed and those who want to now upgrade , they will have no choice but to supply it :D

just my 2kb comment
