Fibre showdown — 100Mbps prices compared

Wirulink, C-Way, and RSAWeb offer the lowest 100Mbps fibre prices compared to more-prominent Internet service providers (ISPs) like Afrihost, Axxess, and Cool Ideas, a MyBroadband analysis has shown.

Wirulink offers the lowest prices for Openserve and Frogfoot's 100Mbps fibre connections, while C-Way is the cheapest for Vumatel and MetroFibre. RSAWeb provides the best pricing on Octotel's network.

Isn't the Octotel/RSAWeb 100mbps for R745 actually the price for 50mbps that is temporarily doubled as part of a promo until 28 Feb 2023? Or are they doubling the speeds permanently? R955 is the normal price for 100mbps.

Service should also factor in when deciding on an ISP. I needed a VoIP phone setup which was NOT provided by Cool Ideas. I'd already been through the manual and had the disti's techie try to assist to no avail.

The CI techie wasn't familiar with the model, but an hour or two later called back, said he'd learnt his way around the phone, and could I please let him login using Team Viewer. Done and dusted, up and running - support provided for an unsupported product, and at no cost.

A few months later, load shedding somehow caused the phone to reset to factory defaults, and I hadn't made a backup of the configuration. One quick call to CI, a techie will call me back. Once again, let him login using Team Viewer and once again, support provided for an unsupported device at no cost.

Downtime? What's that? Oh, I had a three minute outage once. It was back up before I could even find my cellphone.

When I applied for fibre, there was already an existing line to the property from a tenant who bailed without paying. Vuma wanted it paid up in full before they'd activate a line for me, CI got the bill squashed (or absorbed it, I don't know, and I don't care as the outcome to me as a customer was the same).

During this time I already had the VoIP phone setup and running on Rain/Cell C (one was a failover for the other). I ended up on a blacklisted IP address on one of the providers (I think it was blacklisted with Spamhause) which prevented calls. CI took it upon themselves to get the IP address removed from the blacklist - even though it wasn't part of their network.

They have definitely made their money back, as I've since recommended CI to dozens of people, and I know 100% that at least three have signed up with the potential that many more have done so without letting me know. They've gained free advertising from me which will last as long as their service is up to scratch.

Do I care that they're slightly more expensive? Not at all, as 30 minutes of downtime can cost me more than the price difference between them and the cheapest competitor.

Even though I've left Cool Ideas due to Vumatel BF deal, I have never had an issue with their service, and they even assisted after they'd released my line and Vox was being fscking incompetent.

I will move back to CI at some point in the future purely due to the service levels.

My Vox/Vuma 100Mbps has been pretty solid for the last two years or so, normal support ok. Specific support can be an issue though, I use my own device direct to the ONT vs their mik, they couldn't get my port forwarding right.

What absolute shite reporting. RSAweb on Octotel is not R 745/month. That is their 50Mbps line which is doubled for a limited time to 100Mbps! Their 100Mbps line's normal price is R 955/month (discounted for a limited time to R 477.50/month). You have either done poor research (or worse) are purposefully trying to mislead your readers.

If the above is not bad enough, your indicated pricing on Afrihost via Octotel is ALSO WRONG. It's not R 927/month but
R 827/Month!

We expect better journalism than this.

Well that's at least something for Vox.. Connection being mostly solid because if their on boarding process is an indication of their support then its just a shyte show.

Trusc ISP can do 100mbs for R399 if you do not live in an apartment building and the infrastructure belongs to them.

I did read the article, read my post again. RSAWeb's 100meg line on Octotel is not R 745/month. Not for a limited time either and even if it was, it would still be disingenuous to claim they are the cheapest because of it. Their normal price is R 955 with Afrihost @ R 827. You are welcome to double check the prices on the websites of both ISP's.

Does not matter, the article CLEARLY states that those prices were on promotion.

It does matter. If they wanted to claim that RSAweb is the cheapest on Octotel, they would have stated that their price is
R 477.50/month (which it is for 3 months). The article states that their price is R 745/month, which it clearly is not. They took the "normal" price of the 50meg line and used it to claim that RSAweb has the cheapest 100meg line. The article then also quotes the wrong price on the Afrihost package. Two clear and simple errors.

Including promotional prices in articles like these are anyway pointless. Why then not include Webafrica and claim they are the cheapest @ R 19/month?
