The router is a TP-Link 3420 and I've not done the latest firmware upgrade.Does the dial up and virtual default settings on the PC remain on CellC or do I set up another internet connection for the router and make that the new default?

My grandpa's MR3420 also gives him tons of grief. I'm gonna try setup an old Xperia X1 as a 3G wifi hotspot for him with Cell C, and recycle his router back to my house. Wireless-N baby!

modem make and model?
The router takes over the function of the PC. So the router will have it's own dial-up settings. All you need to ensure from the PC side is that it gets IP from the router and you can login to the web interface from your PC. From there the rest of the setup/troubleshooting takes place on the router.
 
Not to sure if this has been asked before, but have read through a number of pages with no answer.
Is there a wifi router with integrated 3G modem? I would like to take up the 5GB Cell C deal but do not want to spend the extra R1000 on a dongle/modem?

Sorry its the 21mb/s CellC black modem that comes with the 5gig/month package.

Cell C is in the process of launching a Mifi type device, check the sticky.
 
Is there anyone here who has the following combination? TP-Link 3420 and a K4505-Z. Does it work well?

...and could one flip between the VC K4505-Z and the CellC E1820 without having to make big changes to the router?
 
Just noting here that a friend of mine has a MR3220 and it has modem identifying problems with the K4505 (not Z) version. Sometimes it shows as K4505 and other times just "3G modem". It disconnects often.
 
Hi All

I just purchased the TL-MR3420 router and I have a windows 7 laptop.. I am able to connect to the internet if I plug my Cell C dongle directly into the laptop.

The laptop picks up the router and connects to it perfectly but when I try to connect to the internet via the router it doesn't let me, it says no internet access and when I press on diagnose connection problems it says "The DNS server isn't responding".


Playstation DNS error.

When set up the internet connection via the wizard, it say, “iP address successful” and “internet access not found DNS error (80710102)”

Please help:-(

hi, its not the 3G modem, that works fine, its the router taht i cant pick up a internet connection with. I have PM you my contact details thou.

Huawei E1820-why is this significant apart from the fact its made in China.
 
Has anybody else updated to the latest TP-LINK MR3420 firmware? Did it a week ago and noticed that my wifi seems to have become a lot less stable. Got a new laptop yesterday and have been trying to copy over files from my desktop (Cable connection). Laptop is on WiFi. After a while it seems like the router's buffers or something is full and Wifi becomes terrible - literally have a 1600ms ping time to the router!

Will try to revert back to the old firmware to see if this help. Must say, alltogether I'm not too impressed with the MR3420 - anybody recommend a good router in which you can plug the SIM directly (with LAN ports - not WiFi only)? This "plug the dongle into the router" thing just doesn't work well enough for me.
