ADSL - Sync Speed Reduced

Anyone made progress?

My stats (Beleldor)

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin: 26.5 db 16.0 db
Line Attenuation: 29.0 db 18.5 db
Data Rate: 4096 kbps 384 kbps

Your stats (rexter) are within the acceptable range so you should have no problem maintaining a 4Mbit sync rate. What do you get with the MyADSL Speedtests (Gamco) out of interest?

SNR:

6dB or below is bad and will experience no sync or intermittent sync problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with little or no sync problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding

Line Attenuation:

20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

I had a TELKOM Technician at my work today to upgrade from basic Diginet to their VPN Premium Service (WAN). I explained my situation and he said the 4Mbit trial has come to an end  So I said if that is the case then my connection speed should be 1Mbit and not 512K. He agreed and said it sounds like an account issue. I even tried to convince him to go with me to my place but no dice :(

Oh well, I guess it is time for another call to TELKOM. (Call No.4 this week)
(33min wait is my lowest so far)

Update!

My apologies for double-posting but I have an update!

Call no.6 to TELKOM got me a friendly chap who reset my line for me and finally, my speed has increased again to where it should be :D

However...through proxy 196.25.253.13 my speed is 2.06Mbit (Gamco)
and with no proxy my speed is 3.49Mbit (Gamco)

This is the average of 10 consecative tests.

I don't quite understand the proxy issue but I guess the cache itself could be a bottleneck (network congestion). I hope it was not caching the result

I asked about 4Mbit and was told it is here to stay for now, as the default highest speed until the next upgrade (10Mbit?).
I know this is the call-center but I really hope this is true.

I know we should not have hassles like this but I find that keeping your temper and persevering is the only way to deal with it...until the next time.

:( I've encountered the same problem recently, I had a 4mb connection, and then a few days ago, it randomly changed to 2048k downstream and 384k upstream (2mb)

So I phoned Telkom and was told that there was nothing I could do about it.

I wonder how long its gonna take before I can get a decent person on the line, who could send out a nice techie to try reset my line as well.

lol, wish my uploads was that high.

Downstream: 4000kbps (yes NOT 4096:confused: )
Upstream: 256kbps

Phoned them and the unhelpful lady said there is nothing they can do as ADSL is not a guaranteed service?!!!

I suppose this figures are not too bad

Code:
Connection Status Connected
Us Rate (Kbps) 384
Ds Rate (Kbps) 4096
US Margin 14
DS Margin 18
Trained Modulation ADSL_G.dmt
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 25
US Line Attenuation 13
Peak Cell Rate 905 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 38138
CRC Tx Fast 1
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Fast Path

Hey guys..

When I had my 384 line I had the following stats:

DS MARGIN 25
US MARGIN 23
DS ATTENTUATION 26
US ATTENTUATION 25

A couple of weeks ago I got 512 and my stats was:

DS MARGIN 30
US MARGIN 18
DS ATTENTUATION 27
US ATTENTUATION 15

And now it shows this:

DS MARGIN 23
US MARGIN 18
DS ATTENTUATION 26
US ATTENTUATION 15

My DS margin dropped and my speed as shown on the GamCo test is: 435.90kbps.

Is something wrong? cause im not getting the speeds I should get and I lost sync.
Any help would be appreciated!!

I've noticed that though I sync at 4096, my lin actually does about 424kB/s max which is somewhere in the region of 3.47Mbps.

Mine was dropped to the C-profile about a month ago. Prior to that if it just looked like bad weather then i had sync problems.

The DSL Up to 4096kbps service has 4 sub-profiles, which are used to stabilize customers' service that experience re-synchs (service interruptions) on their ADSL lines due to last mile distance, noise and attenuation. Therefore customers that experience problems on the service may be accommodated on any of the secondary profiles below:

Secondary profile
A. min sync rate: 640kbps; max sync rate: 4096kbps
B. min sync rate: 640kbps; max sync rate: 3072kbps
C. min sync rate: 640kbps; max sync rate: 2048kbps
D. min sync rate: 640kbps; max sync rate: 1024kbps

I phoned telkom and they said I should ph 0800 456 786. spoke to the guy and he said he doesnt know why and after a while of holding on he said he fixed it now... so I will check when I get home... hopefully he did somethin right :p

Hey Jongi that's normal, you will never be able to download at the "true" sync speed, because of the overheads.

In my case I connect at 4096, but for the life of me I can not get anything faster than 110kb/s actual speed...I've tried Gamco and various other line speed utilities.

I'm in Paarl, Western Cape. Could it be that my speed is throttled at 1mbb/s even though I'm syncing at 4?
