Avoid Afrihost

:( That's really not cool. Our Team is working to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

... and yet another empty promise that came to nothing.

Been trying since 14 Oct 2017 to get a fibre upgrade from 10mbps to 20mbps. Despite following up weekly with Afrihost, and embarrassing them endless in this forum, I could not manage to get them to do anything. Neither did support tickets or phone calls produce anything but empty promises from a whole horde of their representatives.

The upgrade was an attempt to work around their absolutely pathetic international bandwidth, which seems to be very consistently limited to 1.3mbps on a 10mbps line. This was always the case, no exceptions. Their 10mbps fibre is literally much slower than the 10mbps ADSL with Vox that I had before them, for international bandwidth. It's not some problem, as their representatives here have implied - it's the Afrihost Normal.

Today I finally gave up and cancelled this line. If you are reading this, please heed the warning to avoid Afrihost. Dealing with them is like dealing with a bank. They are completely useless.

Trying RSAWeb next. Let's see how that goes.

Well, for now I've figured out how to switch all of my devices to Google DNS, and my problems are gone, so the issue is definitely DNS related.

If it's not an Afrihost issue, maybe it's my router. No way of knowing, because I can't specify a DNS at router level.

Either way, everything works right now, so I'm happy.

I am really glad to hear that! :)

Telkom Pace router?
This worked for me

Steps to follow on how to change (setup) the DNS on the Pace921VNX:
- Download a program called Putty at http://www.putty.org/
- Open Putty by double clicking the downloaded file putty.exe
- Select the Telnet radio button
- Type your Pace’s LAN IP address at the Host Name (or IP Address) field – Example: 10.0.0.2
- Click on Open

- Once you have clicked on Open, please log into the Pace921VNX with the following username and password:
• Username: admin
• Password: nology*/4
- Once you have logged into the Pace921VNX via a Telnet session, please type the following commands to setup /change the DNS (the commands are case sensitive – type it exactly as below):
 cd WANConnectionDevice_1 {Press Enter}
 set DNSOverrideAllowed 1 {Press Enter}
 set DNSServers x.x.x.x,y.y.y.y <where x.x.x.x will be the primary DNS IP address and y.y.y.y the secondary DNS IP address > {Press Enter}
 fcommit {Press Enter to save/apply the changes that you have made on the Pace921VNX}
 exit {Press Enter}
Suggest you keep it on the Google one.

Good luck mate. Nobody can say you didn't try to make it work. Question is... what took you so long ? :D

Madness :)

One reason was that I was stupid enough to take the "free" router, which I didn't really need, and then there's the "free" installation, so switching away from them costs something, because you have to pay them back for the free stuff. Let that be another warning to readers... :(

I'm really sad to hear that you decided to take this route. :( Best of luck for the future, paoloc. :( If you ever need any future advice or assistance, please let us know.

If you signed up on or after 5 October 2017, you'd only owe them for the "free" router. So the "free" installation is genuinely free depending on when you signed up.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I got in just before that date. Oh well.

Not sure what you've expected, given the (lack of) assistance he received from AH :confused: Btw, I guess your developers are still 'busy on high priority projects" .... with no ETA

I'm really sorry to hear that Luke7777. :(

Our developers are definitely aware of your concerns and are working on it.

Not my concerns... it's every capped fibre user's concern, and the inability of your devs to provide an ETA should be of a even greater concern to you and the powers that be

It remains a priority for our Team.

I'm sorry... their inability/reluctance to commit/deliver says otherwise

I just want to reiterate it is not due to their reluctance or inability at all. Our Dev Team are all highly qualified and highly skilled, but they have an immense workload and quite a number of projects that they are working to complete. I can assure you that they well complete this as quickly as possible.

Good evening Afrifolks,

Today I was hit with a massive bill for cancelling my Fibre in favour of ADSL for affordability reasons.

This is presumably a simple admin error, as I've been over your "Fibre Broadband Terms and Conditions", countless times before signing up, and there is nothing to indicate a cancellation fee or penalty of any kind for signups which took place on or after 5 October 2017.

I even confirmed with you on this very forum that there would not be any cancellation fees if I were to cancel the service in less than 6 months.

I would appreciate that someone sort this out as soon as possible, as I'm unable to settle my ADSL account until this matter is resolved.

UPDATE: I'm pleased to report my issue has been resolved.

Huge thanks to George (Accounts Supervisor) for going out of his way to help me when nobody else was willing to.

Right now, he is the only reason I am continuing to do business with Afrihost.
