Afrihost Mobile Speed Test

Zero at home, but I was expecting that. Vodacom couldn't even provide a voice signal, never mind data, and MTN barely manages to. MTN has actually been getting worse, so I'm not anticipating improvements anytime soon.

Sorry to hear that. Some places are just very unfortunate with cellular signal. I was at an office building a while back, in a major centre, but as soon as you walked in the door - zero signal. Everyone in that office was so grumpy because no-one received or could make calls on their cell all day. I'm sure their bosses love it though ;)

wow, East London has changed since I was there. There used to be 1 nightclub in the whole town (do they still call them nightclubs?). I think it was called Numbers. A very strange place ;)

Yip, Numbers and they have been a top 10 SA club for decades.

Clearly the other Gonubie outlying poster is on a different tower as I have never seen those speeds in Gonubie.

Royal Ascot, Milnerton, Western Cape.

Really don't get how we can be in the middle of FIVE towers and we rarely get orange.

In the Moot area, basically zero signal. Disappointing that MTN's signal is so terrible.

Even tried 2G barely any signal either... anyone know if the thing could be damaged?

You could be on the fringe of all five.

I suppose it's possible...

The closest towers though are about:

1.4 km
1.5 km
2.6 km
4.5 km
4.5 km

Then we're about more or less in the middle of them, how can we get an orange signal only when you do a rain dance, sacrifice a cat and drink cow's blood, all at the correct moon cycle, when two towers are within 1.5km from us and five within 5km?

Seems terrible that at 1.5km you can't even get a green signal...

The device rarely wants to even admit there's a MTN network, no problem picking up the 'forbidden' 8ta, Vodacom or Cell C though. Then half the time when MTN is picked up it fails to register on network, again within 1.5km?

EDIT: At another location I'm +- 800m away from the tower, same story rarely even get orange at under a 1km distance? No really that's pathetic.

@AfriMan

Anyone returned any devices due to being faulty?

Still can't get over how bad the signal is here.

With the level of quality testing on devices nowadays it's VERY unlikely to find a faulty device. I've only come across one that may be faulty, and we still need to test it. These devices are factory tested and strictly quality controlled.

Think about it though, how often do you hear about a new cellphone not working out of the box? Pretty much never these days :)

Having said that, anything is possible. But from what I can see, all our devices are working 100%

Finally got around to "playing" with the Mifi.
Not too shabby speed at home:

Edited to add: this was with the Mifi connected to my PC. Must still do a mobile speed test through my phone.
