Hello

MTN was busy with software upgrades as per their vendors recommendation however, these are being rolled back due to intermittent services and slow speeds.

MTN has just informed us of the emergency roll back happening tonight at 11pm to 6am.

Once the software has been rolled back we hope things will improve stability wise.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Hi.

There was maintenance last night.

South Africa, Medium Impact • MTN | Emergency Maintenance

MTN will be performing emergency maintenance at 11pm on 19th June 2025 to address an issue with intermittent connections. During this maintenance period, affected clients may experience service interruptions for up to an hour. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Have you maybe reached your cap?

No.

With how slow it's been, it's also highly unlikely.

50Mbps Uncapped Pure LTE (MTN) - Subject to a monthly threshold of 150GB. Once you’ve reached your monthly data limit, your connection speed will be limited to 4Mbps for the remainder of the month.

I have used just over half of that.

And AfriGirl has been checking.

Forcing band 1 (so 1+1 aggregation) gives me 80Mbit avg during the day and a solid 100mbit (my limit) later in the evenings. Leaving my router to do it's own thing usually gets less than half that speed. Mine likes 41+3 for some reason which gives mediocre results.

But it wasn't always like this. When I got Fixed MTN LTE at the end of November 2024 it kept aggregating on band 1 and 3 and it gave massive packetloss in the afternoon to the point where you couldn't stream a 720p video without buffering pauses. I then had to force band 41 which was stable and okayish speed. Now band 41 is just usable and band 1 no longer gives packetloss.

I guess what I'm trying to say is for me personally 4G has never been "switch on and forget". You may have to fiddle with the band combinations from time to time.

Seems to be fixed since yesterday afternoon.

Getting more or less 50Mbps again!

Not sure what was fixed during the MTN emergency maintenance, but that may have resolved it..
Anyway shot for sorting it out.

Very slow again. Should be 50, only getting 10.

Soft cap not reached.

I don't understand. I want to upgrade to 100Mbps, but if it only gets a 10th of that, and can't even get a half, then what is the point?

Still same old story not getting more than 8Mbps,
I switched off my Afrihost Pure Lte connection for 1 week as l was trying vodacom, then l switched back on today still getting same low speeds.

Nothing is fixed MTN and the ISP that provide mtn fixed lte are stealing from us. It's 6 months Nothing been fixed.

Imagine paying R949 for this kinda service.
