Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Hi has anyone seen that MTN has a new fixed LTE packages called myMTN Home cheaper than the current LTE package than the packages being offered by MTN through ISP’s.

I don’t know what is the difference besides being cheaper that the current package and looks like 24 month contract.

Example i am paying through Isp 300gig (150 day 150 night) R749.00 new package through MTN 500gig (250 day 250 night) R699.00 but 24 contract dont know if it is worth it.

Yes the MTN Home WiFi packages are now a lot cheaper directly from MTN rather than through the ISPs. Hopefully this will result in cheaper Fixed LTE packages from the ISPs otherwise I think that many customers will move across to the cheaper packages.

@AfriNatic Is it possible to migrate from Axxess to Afrihost with the MTN FIxed LTE? Kinda at my wits end here with the issues I've been having with Axxess for like nearly 2 months now. Was working well first few months, now it's a total disaster.

Migrations are not possible you would essentially need to cancel and signup for Afrihost if you want to use us on MTN Fixed LTE.

Why would you move to the same company? Axxess is owned by afrihost.

They sell the same deal, so you will connect to same tower and probably have the same speeds.

I know that's why I asked. I figure support on their end would be much better, with Axxess support is practically non-existent

Is it just me or that dealing with MTN directly or supersonic their ISP, provides a better deal?
I was comparing packages across afrihost and supersonic, supersonic deals were more affordable.
Supersonic uncapped is R999 all in... Afrihost close to R3k per month. What's the difference. I assume axxess would be the same (did not check them out yet)

I'm sure those are 24 month contracts though, ISPs don't lock you to contracts for the Fixed LTE, so I'm sure it must be two different service packages entirely

If 3mbps and 50ms is a disaster then I don't want to know what mine is. >..<
I've got three devices on MTN Fixed LTE, one supersonic and two afrihost, they both go brown trousers time, it's the MTN network and not the APNs (at least in my area)

That's my supersonic R999 speed for the past 3 days

I was thinking of getting a mikrotik lhg lte6 can it help guys...currently using Huawei B618s-22 , I've tried B618s 65 and B612-233 with poynting xpol 6 antenna.

I have a Afrihost Fixed LTE sim in a B612-233 attached to an xpol-6. This same antenna when attached to a B315 and an MTN LTE (non-fixed) sim gets full signal / excellent speeds. But the B612/xpol-6 combination can barely connect to the tower. I've tried putting the same MTN LTE sim in the B612 with the same weak signal.

Is this a band issue with the B612? I can't get the band-tool to work to manually select bands, it has issues with the login data on the B612. Or could it be an issue with the combination of the B612 and the xpol-6? Any way to manually select bands on the B612? How could I tell which bands my tower uses?

I assume it's not the xpol-6, as even though it doesn't cover band 8, it works perfectly with the B315. Wish I could just us the B315 with the Afrihost Fixed LTE!

Hi,

What is the signal and cell id if you compare it to the B315?

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. I think I have managed to get the band-tool to work on the B612, however power failures now mean the tower seems to have gone down. Let me check the cell IDs once everything is running. Thanks

Hi all
Anyone here with MTN fixed LTE but you are technically not in the coverage area?
Before I got fibre I had fixed LTE for years, first Rain, then CellC and then MTN and I never had any issues.

I'll be moving to the Dinokeng Reserve just outside Pretoria in the near future and I'm looking at internet options. I see it's not far out of the MTN coverage map and with Afrihost / MTN I will at least know what I'm getting in to, I see Herotel wireless is also a option in the area, but I don't know them at all.

I know in these rural areas electricity is also a big problem, a friend living on a farm just outside Pretoria have full LTE speeds but if the electricity goes down the cell towers go down, then he can hardly send a Whatsapp.
