Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Thanks, got the APN sorted.

As luck would have it I have now been informed they are having problems with provisioning 4G on the MTN network.

Lovely.

Well they have until Sunday to sort that out.

Still nothing even after using correct apn?

The router can't make a data connection - status LED is red. That is probably cause it's stuck on 3G because it has not been provisioned for 4G.

I'll be using the old Axxess MTN mobile in the meanwhile.

Called support this morning and was told I need to wait 24 hours for provisioning to take place.

So I'll see tonight if it has connected. Sitting on full signal, but 3G, so useless.

I see that none of my data from November has been carried over into December. Is that the same for everyone, or does it take a day or two to reflect?

Mine neither. My Rain data always did...I expect same from MTN.

I hope it does, I had nearly 10Gb Nighttime data left over from Nov ( I want to utilise it by dl'ing movies, docs or doing windows updates during these times)

@AfriMan - seems like the data from November has not rolled over. This is contrary to what is stated on the Afrihost website:

"Pure LTE (MTN)

Yes, Anytime and Night Time data will roll over for 30 days."

Please could this urgently be addressed.

Should this be enabled? Makes no difference in my case as I have not been able to connect all weekend.

You can switch it off but won't make much difference. Did they supply you with the router? IF so they just supplied you with a Telkom router so won't make much of a difference you can switch it off.

I'll switch it off. So the latest is they tell me they have now requested MTN to activate the SIM.

After all these calls.

I have not read the full thread, but does the old b315 router not work at all with this service?

@maq_: The B315 does work with the service but MTN does not allow you to use it as they claim that it slows down the service for other customers as it does not support Cat 6 carrier aggregation. Alternatively you could look at one of Telkom's 61 day prepaid bundles if you don't really want to pay extra for a new router.

Thanks, really appreciate it.

@maq_: Here are the latest Telkom prepaid prices. They are quite similar to the Telkom LTE packages that are offered by several of the ISPs like Afrihost and Axxess etc. if you buy a 61 day bundle and split it over two months. Telkom also offer contract SIM only pricing but you would have to ask them for more details regarding termination penalties etc.
