Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Hi @cavedog @AfriGuy

Has international performance and speeds been fixed yet?

The issue I was moaning about in Feb/March?

Well we haven't seen complaints about it since. Afrihost has quite a big number of MTN fixed LTE clients judging by the amount of traffic that get's handed over. Maybe people that currently use it can confirm with a few tests? I don't have good MTN coverage so I can't test. :(

Thanks. :)

Supersonic has a very good network, but lacking in client support.

AH (from when I was using them) had bad international performance but relatively decent client support and an awesome usage tracker etc.

Wish I could take the best from each and merge them together. :)

We are aware of an issue with Netflix where it is detecting out IPs as being a proxy or VPN. We are investigating why Netflix is detecting our IP ranges as that being from a VPN. More updates to follow!

DSTV Now shows "No content available" for Live TV. Catch Up is working though

My Pure LTE seems to be doing OK today. Maybe not the best speeds that I have ever seen but I am happy with 40Mbps down and 8Mbps up.

@Dianysis: Have you tried changing the frequency bands using the Huawei Band Tool? Maybe you can try LTE_1800+2100 or LTE_1800 or LTE_2100. The 900MHz band is usually the slowest of the three.

Good morning everyone

I need some assistance please.

So I play Call of Duty Warzone and on 12/06/2020 I stayed up until 00:10 to download the new 40GB update with my Afrihost Fixed LTE 60gb midnight data.

Now, not knowing you should manually restart your LTE router for the midnight data to kick in I went and did the update.

When I woke up the next morning the update was completed and everything was 100% until I went to check my data usage on Afrihost's clientzone and realized the data was almost depleted on my anytime data.

I have now been in contact with Afrihost's support team since then and for some reason they cannot get it fixed for me.

I have ticket numbers and everything but have no idea how to take this further to get it resolved.

Hope someone can shed some light here

No need to reboot your router.
Nighttime data kicks in automatically from midnight and runs till 06.00
Your logs will display your usage to confirm when it was dl'ed, but noting that you finished at 00:10 i can safely assume the dl ate up anytime data mostly...

I might have said that wrong. I stayed up until 00:10 and started the update. So basically it only started downloading from 00:10.

What is strange is that Afrihost's team at support said it doesn't work automatically and that every user on their customer base should restart the router... I told them I don't believe that but they are "klip harde gat".

@cavedog is investigating it though so hopefully this gets sorted soon

Makes no diff what they say or claim, the fact is, if you only started your dl after midnight then they must rectify and credit you the lost anytime data.

Agreed 100%

I do exactly the same thing religiously, as I'm sure most others do.

Torrents, large World of Warship monthly updates, F/HD video docs only after midnight, except on the very rare occassions I feel generous :)

That's exactly what the whole X+XGb sales pitch bullshit is about for me.

Hi there man, little off topic but, how happy are you playing warzone etc with your package??
i am contemplating moving to the Afrihost Mtn deal 100 and 100gig. My mother has it down my road and its DAMMNN fast.. just wondering about ping etc?
could you post a pic of the latency and packet loss while playing please?

Hey there

More than welcome to assist, I can honestly say playing Warzone since lockdown in March up to now I had no packet loss, the times I did have packet loss everyone else playing with me had it as well and they are all on 100mb fibre so we concluded it was the server that had an issue.

My latency (keep in mind I stay in George, Western Cape) is always anywhere between 70ms to 90ms.

Some people don't like those latencies but for me it works. I used to have those latencies on my 4mb ADSL line as well so for me personally it is identical to when I had ADSL.

If you do however stay in JHB or CT I rate you might be used to lower latencies then these and if so I am not sure how that would effect you. I have never had latencies of 50ms and lower so not sure what the difference is if any.

I will post screenshots tonight when I jam again.

This routers that Afrihost supply, the so called mtn approved one's, can they take external antenna's.

Well I have the ZTE.

They remove the battery (or buy it like that at discount) to force you to have it plugged in at home.

There are two connections for antenna's (left and right).
