Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

I'm hoping someone can help. I have been experiencing issues with my fixed wireless since about Friday last week.

- I have tried everything to solve this issue such as the usual reboot, resetting the router, trying different bands using the Huawei tool etc.
- I've contacted Afrihost a few times regarding the issue and they haven't been useful at all.

I don't think this is a congestion issue as my fluctuates too much . Below are the results. All of the below speedtests are done within minutes of each other.

I have the B618 in the living room...speeds on htpc average between 90-105mb download.

Cable is running to the other room where my pc and my son's pc is sitting. When doing speedtest the highest we get is 25-30mb.

Have used a 10/100 hub and also used my spare Dlink G225 Telkom branded router and got the same slow speeds from both devices.

Can someone assist please?

3 bars signal on B612 that supersonic provided, not even in a fixed lte covered area lol

This was during load shedding, telkom is useless during load shedding.

Was it escalated to have a fault logged with MTN?

I'm sorry to hear this. MTN has not given us any go ahead so their systems still register the old devices.
We will let you know if anything changes.
Good day

Is there any update on the B818 compatibility with MTN PURE LTE through Afrihost? I just bought a B818 to use with the MTN package through afrihost, to find this thread stating it wont work. quite dissapointed. any news on this though?

Thanks

Quick question regarding the MTN Fixed LTE package, since it's month to month, is it possible to "suspend" the service for a month, like in the following scenario: lets say i have the 100gb package, after the end of the month i still have about 50gb remaining thus wouldn't need another 100gb, can i suspend the 100gb package and then resume it for the month afterwards? Or is there like a 30 days notice period, which wouldn't really help me much. And downgrading a package, is there a prior notice period or is that from the next month?

Im currently on Telkom LTE, and at times only have to buy data every second month, but ping is quite high but great DL speeds. So im looking at testing other options to see if there isnt any better ones.
Regarding the above, i was told by some to buy a MTN sim, load some data and do a speed test, and that would give me an indication as to what ill be getting, but i have also heard that prepaid sims and fixed sims have different stats like, DL speed and ping. And even when using different companies, like the speed and ping wouldnt be the same between using a fixed LTE sim from MTN and Afrihost and Axxess etc.
Was also looking at Supersonic, but same as above applies.

So in the end, it would seem ill be doing a lot of testing and applying for a lot of packages with different companies in my quest to find what's best for me. Anyone know why there would be a discrepancy between all the different companies if they all use MTN?

Just realized i said quick question and then proceed to "write" a few paragraphs.:)

Basically, you might be connecting to the same tower, but not the same antenna. The soon after the tower you are routed onto Afrihost, Web Africa, MWeb or whatever own net work, so MTN provides the initial infrastructure for the service, before it gets transfered to the ISP's own network. Lots of space for variations in experience, there.

You can always get our 1GB free Air Mobile data and test that in a B618 or ZTE to get an indication of the speeds you will receive on the fixed LTE sim.

Unfortunately you can not pause the package but you can downgrade it if required. Downgrades done before the 22nd of each month will take place the same month.

Thanks, i do believe i have a prepaid MTN sim somewhere in the house. Will give this a go and test it in my B618. If im not mistaken my house has LTE-A or 4G+ coverage for MTN. 1GB should be enough for 3 tests; morning, midday and night.

Keen to see the results

If you change your package (before the 22nd), don't you forfeit the rollover data?

The expiry or roll over date is set each month that the data is allocated. Selecting a package change will not effect this date unless the package is set for cancellation the obviously when the package is terminated then the months data before termination will not be rolled over because the sim will be cancelled.

get the mybroadband speedtest app, mtn allows free speed test on their APN.

If i may ask, What Telkom package are you on?

Thanks for the response, however, the Client Zone appears to contradict what you have said.

That is a new change so apologies for that. Did you already migrade because of my advise?

So when upgrading or downgrading the system locks the old data links and allocate new ones hence rollover is not possible.

No, I did not migrate my package.

I originally raised the query for the advise provided to Doom5003 in Post 1087, the current rollover mechanism will not work for their use cae.

Currently i buy as need. I buy the 100GB+100GB and that covers me for a month and a bit, depending on a few things. Luckily i got notified that my area are in the planning phase of getting fibre, should be done by Dec

Fixed Wireless - Current
Everything is looking good!
There are no problems to report at this moment

Not where I am, it isn't looking good at the moment.
Was fine up until early this morning when I was doing some downloads - was then getting close to 50 Mbps down.
Now getting between 2 and 8 Mbps down, and around 3 up. Ping in latest speedtest was 26, which is very acceptable, as in line with what I've got in the past (23 being the lowest, a few weeks ago).

Afri, can you please send someone to fix my tower :giggle:
Seriously, anyone else experiencing much lower speeds this morning ; will send Afri a PM with the closest tower name & number I have near me, but don't know if MTN have a presence there. I have no idea which tower I'm connecting to.
