Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

How odd, for the last few days my speeds and connectivity have been abysmal but only YouTube saturates the line at full speed, I've already followed up with both Afrihost and MTN directly to no avail. so I'll do some more troubleshooting later today.

We usually log a fault with MTN that could take some time to get resolved. If there is an issue with a MTN tower MTN usually know about it and have already take action.

If you still having issues for extended periods of time then it's best if we keep logging a fault and follow up with MTN.

Thank you, yeah that's the plan and I'm really grateful that support would continuosly check up with them.

Got a resolve, it turned out to be a congested portal I believe, but everything is flying again! Service is always top notch in this regard.

Anyway you guys could request that MTN check out our local tower to sort out the battery?
Usually my MTN would be fine for the whole loadshedding session... now it disconnects and shows No-Service about 20 minutes in.

We can try. I have you deeds let me see what I can manage. :)

Hey AfriNatic
I just ordered my sim today. I live in Lenasia South, I just wanted to find out if you have interacted with any customers from Lenasia South on the Afrihost MTN Fixed Wireless? If so, how were their speeds? I tried searching but I can't find anything.

@Seaweedbrain: Most customers appear to get decent speeds on the Afrihost/MTN Fixed Wireless service. You can also try switching between 900, 1800 and 2100MHz frequencies using the Huawei Band Tool (if you are using a Huawei router) and adjusting the position of your router if your speeds are not fast enough.

You need to add your router username and password to the huawei_band_tool_config.txt file inside the quotation marks to activate the tool. The LTE_900, LTE_1800 and LTE_2100 batch files allow you to switch to the individual bands for speed test purposes. I usually configure all three frequencies on my B618 using the LTE_ALL batch file.

If you purchase the smallest 30+30GB bundle for R199pm you can always upgrade to one of the larger bundles once you are satisfied with the performance. I am currently using the 30+30GB package and speeds are normally quite good - 30~40Mbps down and 8~10Mbps up. If I move my router to a better location I have seen download speeds of 60Mbps but I am quite happy with slightly slower speeds in the current location.

Hey

So personally I haven't dealt with many Fixed LTE issues just a few and none of them are from Lenasia. The thing is with so many towers that overlap coverage just a few houses from you might be getting 100Mbps while you might be getting 20Mbps this side so it's really a case by case situation with every issue when it come Fixed LTE.

The sim only option is month to month so you can cancel at any time with no penalties and try Telkom if that is an option.

I had a swak kak signal at my house initially when i signed up, so switched from Telkom to MTN and now regularly hit 100Mbps (4 over 18 months now )
My mother, OTOH, has no MTN but a fairly strong Telkom signal at her place so went with such for her, and she hits 20-40 Mbps easily most times of day.

YMMV

Indeed. I stay in Centurion and if I get 4Mbps on MTN Fixed LTE I'm lucky but I do have very good Telkom coverage pushing close to 180Mbps on Telkom. I also do have Openserve fibre. So yes Fixed LTE is purely based on coverage and depends on the location there is no general advise if I can put it like that it's a trial and error. We can log coverage queries with MTN but if a new tower is require the process takes a long time so we would rather offer clients a solution that works for them now. They can always switch around. :)

good day all

iam on the uncapped pure lte fixed lte package. since the 25th of this month my up and down speeds have decreased to max 0.98Mbps for up and down, speedtest never goes above. i have sent so many reports to afrihost support for them to resolve this issue but all i get told is the following;

> Reset, re-config router
> Move the device around
> Change the mode from auto to 4G only
> ipconfig /release and after its done run the below command
> ipconfig /renew
> Please reboot your router for 10 minutes and test your connection once again

previous to this i would get speeds of upto 15Mbps at a -76dBm which is fine for my use.

i have done all that they have asked but still iam still plodding along at this slow speed. Though even moving the device i dont see the point as it was never moved before this issue started, so a moved router is not the cause. having come from adsl iam used to the last weekend things going slow , but this is like a week after the end of the month

@AfriFella @AfriGuy @AfriNatic

Have Afrihost Fixed LTE at the shop. 35 mbps down and 10 mbps up

A problem is the IP phone

The transport protocol is supposed to be UDP, but it is set to TCP, so it cuts out often, often in the middle of calls. A tech from Euphoria came round and diagnosed it in early July.

Have asked Afrihost 3 times in the past 2 months to change it. I can tell from the vague replies that either no-one knows how to do this, or they are disinterested

At the end of September I will change to Buzybuy as they can get it going. I'm fed up with the lack of response

Hi,

Sorry for the runaround you have been experiencing.

Can you send me your clientzone email address so I can have a look?

Hi,

The setting of TCP to UDP is a setting you would need to change in the sip details in your IP phone and it's not something we can change on our side. Have you logged into the ip phone and checked the settings are correct?

I have an example of a Fanvil setup for you.

Below is the setup of my VOIP settings. I see mine is default on TCP but I can change it to UDP or TLS. Maybe just confirm your ip phone settings.

@AfriNatic - yesterday I logged into my profile in the ClientZone it was showing I still had approximately :
5.5GB still available from JULY '20 (night-time rollover data) ;
7GB still available from JULY '20 (ordainary rollover data, which gets deducted between 6am to midnight).

Logged in and checked again now, and my JULY rollover data is no longer showing.
Furthermore, data used during the night of the 31st August - for July (between 12 midnight to 6am) - has been deducted off my AUGUST data (about 3.5GB), even though it's still JULY (data) and I was under the impression I still had over 5GB unused for JULY to use up overnight.

What's happened, is that your system has cut-off the month (of JULY rollover data) after 30 days, and taken away data that I should still have had to use, not only overnight (to 6am) but also for the remainder of the day on the 31st August ... what's more, is that any data used today, will be deducted from AUG0UST's data, even though that should only come off from tomorrow, as rollover (from August) data used in SEPTEMBER ?

Might seem confusing, because of the 60 days given to use up data, on this MTN package, but :

What will you at Afrihost do to reinstate the lost data from my JULY overnight (rollover) data on the last day of the month, plus give me back my ordinary data (around 7GB) that should still be available today for me to use up from JULY's ordinary (rollover) data ?

The way I view it, it's effectively theft of data that I had in my possession, now just gone.
Unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot yesterday, but I'm sure your records should show that I still had the data to use from JULY's rollover I'm stating I did.

Sending you my username details, via a PM after this.

Good morning,

I got you pm regarding the matter and you have a very valid point. On my side I see the data is still there but for some reason it's not reflecting in clientzone and not being utilized. I'm going to get someone from Dev team to take a look quickly and revert back with feedback. Sorry for this.

Thanks very much @AfriNatic .
I've subsequently replied to your PM.

I didn't mean to be so harsh wrt the "theft" of data.
On reflection, I realised that it's probably a programming issue whereby 31-day months aren't (yet?) taken into account by your system/s, when it comes to reflection in the ClientZone.

I have the same issue. I actually just noticed it. I should have about 10Gig rollover data of July left

The issue has been resolved and the data should be available again.

Hi there,

This was a Dev issue and has been fixed. Please can you check again? If it's not fixed send me your clientzone email via pm so I can have a look. :)
