If I apply now then I only get charged once the line is freed by Vox and then activated by Afrihost?
Does the 3 months free start from that point (activation)?

Also wondering.
Saw no mention of the first months free during signup, only in the email.

Either way - signed up. My AH mobile account is costing more than this with end of month topups.
 
As a matter of interest @AfriMan - can one sign up for a faster package, say 200/200, use that for the 3 free months on a migration, and then downgrade at the end of the last free month to a cheaper package?
 
So far so good, speeds very consistent and slightly higher actually by some 1 to 2 Mbps. I am happy - this is week 2.

You can indeed... also upgrade to faster speeds if you want.
 
Clarity regarding early cancellation with CISP. Do I just email CISP accounts and let them know i want to exit early? and send the invoice to Afrihost for them to credit my account?

Yes you send the cancellation to [email protected] and someone in accounts will credit the account. Claiming this cancellation fee is a manual process after you have signed up. During the signup you will see an activation fee that is paid and if you take the router that part will also be paid. Those two are deducted from the R5k so R999 for activation on Vumatel and Openserve as far as I can see and then R999 for the router that leaves most people with R5000 - R999 - R999 = R3002 left for claiming the cancellation fee. Remember this cancellation credit can only be claimed if you cancel with immediate effect and not if you decide to wait out the cancellation month if that makes sense.

I signed up with Afrihost. Cancelled with Supersonic but had to wait until ~20th this month so I can't claim for the service but they charged me for the installation and activation as a clawback cancellation and forwarded that to Afrihost and the credited my account. So I have the rest of this month free and the following two months and then after that credit will be consumed.

@AfriMan - my modem’s delivery status has been stuck on “Dispatch Pending” since yesterday morning - after being “Parcel Packed” since 21/07....

So imagine my surprise to arrive home this evening, and find the promised D-Link already delivered, sitting in our kitchen... :)

On a more serious note: Do bigger, ‘external’ antennae’s make _any_ difference to a router’s Wifi range?

My existing ASUS, and the new D-Link seem to have identical specs. Other than the extra USB 3.0 sitting on the back of the Asus - its antennas are all ‘internal’.

Would being able to tweak the direction of the D-Link’s 4 antennas potentially make a difference? That’s pretty much the only reason I can think of that would justify swapping the Asus for the D-Link (with the possible exception of the management UI/App).

Why not just leave it as is - you will only be charged once it goes live - in fact 2 months after it goes live. The first 2 months are free ( because its a new install ), so the benefits remain regardless.
 
So got the D-Link router today. So set it up now keen to test it and see how it works compared to the Tenda router I was using. Was hoping to install Openwrt but not supported.... :(

What difference would it have made? I rather like the D-Link firmware.

I think it's a lot more "tweakable" - loads more settings - and its also supposed to be more stable than the stock FW. You can also get more stats ( graphs etc ) out of it...
