Remember that some LAN cables (and routers/switches) can only achieve 100Mbps. Some of the Mac Adapters (especially USB) are also limited to 100Mbps. So check your signal chain and check if there is anything potentially limiting speeds.

I think the devices does not support 1Gbps ethernet or you are using a cat5 ethernet cable and not a cat5e cable.

5Ghz wifi can easily handle 200Mbps down and 100Mbps upload if you are relatively close to the router. In my case the Telkom LIT box has a 100Mbps ethernet cable but has 5Ghz wifi so I put a wifi access point next to it and then connect it to that with wifi. Faster than the 100Mbps lan port limit.

I'm also running a UniFi setup. Added the new D-Link to my desk so I have 5GHz Wi-Fi at least in that part of the house (UniFi APs are 2.4GHz) and can also wire up my consoles in addition to the PC. It's working perfectly with DHCP disabled, with all ports at 1Gbps.

Just make sure you give the D-Link an SSID that's different from the UniFi mesh or your devices will act stupid.

I did notice that the default country selection for 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi is Russia after resetting the D-Link. Maybe that lends credibility to the above claim.

I have noticed that as well when configuring the WiFi.

It randomly rebooted once, but otherwise it's been fine.

I did nothing but disable DHCP and change the last number of the IP address. Which is how slave routers are supposed to be configured as far as I'm aware.

We definitely don't interfere with the firmware, it would most likely be where DLINK are pushing their firmware updates. We're busy investigating. If the firmware is not optimal, we'll take it up with the supplier, and come up with a workaround if we can.
 
Is there a probkem with the site.. When I try to check out it just hangs on the loading screen?
 
Any guys here that have the 1gbps 1000/100 package that can run international speed tests please. To optimum online - New York server and coreix - London server. Thanks

London latency is about 163ms. 170ms to Germany and The Netherlands which covers most EUW servers. Solid 4ms to Discord SA servers and 4ms to JHB Mweb hosted servers like Battlefield V and Battlefield 1 on PC and xbox one. 178ms to EUW League of legends server and it does not vary. You play a 40min game and for 40min straight it stays on 178ms no lag. Love it.

I have pretty much the same experience as you with my current ISP on Openserve. The only thing I'd be interested in is if I can get my ping lower to BF V servers in the EU and also Dubai / UAE. I don't know why, but UAE servers should be our closest next to Jhb (for game servers), but the ping to Dubai is terrible, always 250ms+. The best I get is to Germany where it stays a constant 170ms, which is still outside the ping limit of 160ms. I don't get the 160ms to London, mine is at 170ms as well.

I'm not sure if it will improve by switching ISP's to Afrihost, but if it does, I'll be happy to move.

I just want to confirm, I'm with Cool Ideas, they also require a calendar month notice. If I cancel now they will still bill me for August. If I ask them to cancel immediately and invoice me for August now, will you credit that amount back to me for migrating? (I signed up with AfriHost yesterday for the Pure Fibre migration).

@AfriMan confirmed that you can get the early cancellation and they'll credit your account (if it falls within the R5000 cash back)
 
Wow, great promos and feedback - well done Afrihost! Out of curiosity I decided to log into the clientzone last night and discovered that I was an Afrihost client from 2009-2018, that's quite a while! Those DSL top-ups were great :ROFL:
