Interesting. I went to great lengths (and expense) to get a Ubiquiti UniFi home setup, primarily so that I have detailed stats about the devices on the network and how much data they are using.
I think the custom firmware is just a nice to have to max whatever router you have. Looks pretty decent actually. It's fine the D-Link came with the very latest firmware 3.0.5 so will check how is the stability and wifi but so far it seems on par with the Tenda in terms of performance. Not sure why people are saying it's Russian. D-Link is made in Russia and that is probably their primary market but it has English International firmware on not Russian firmware. Pretty much standard features so will just check how stable it is since I also run it from my battery backup system so it never goes off even when there is power failures.
Actually noticed this evening that it states "Russia" under its firmware section. Was about to ask, at the risk of sounding like a scared American, if I should be worried

Yes, we only start the counter when your line is active. Just remember that your first "pro-rata" months counts as month 1. So if you get activated on the 15th of August - August is month 1
Hope the answer above helps - but basically if you are transferring, you get 3 months form point of activation - month 1 is pro-rata.
Do you have Afrihost Plus for your mobile? Helps with double data for the month, and 2 for 1 topus when you needs. R100 bucks extra, but then you save a ton more. Simfy is pretty decent too

Yes, that's correct. If they charge you a penalty, you need to pay the amount and then send us the invoice so we can credit it back to your Afrihost billing.
@AfriMan - my modem’s delivery status has been stuck on “Dispatch Pending” since yesterday morning - after being “Parcel Packed” since 21/07....
So imagine my surprise to arrive home this evening, and find the promised D-Link already delivered, sitting in our kitchen...
On a more serious note: Do bigger, ‘external’ antennae’s make _any_ difference to a router’s Wifi range?
My existing ASUS, and the new D-Link seem to have identical specs. Other than the extra USB 3.0 sitting on the back of the Asus - its antennas are all ‘internal’.
Would being able to tweak the direction of the D-Link’s 4 antennas potentially make a difference? That’s pretty much the only reason I can think of that would justify swapping the Asus for the D-Link (with the possible exception of the management UI/App).
I don't really think the size of the antennae make a huge difference - becuase many of the mesh systems use internal antennaes, which I assume are coils or some other manner of magafters.
The best tip I can give you is that antennaes broadcast outward, not upwards. So if you mount to the wall, don't pount them out (at 90% to the wall). Place them flat.
I would test both and see what gives you the best coverage. Then use the other one as an access node, for a difficult to reach WiFi spot.
You can cancel, and we should waive the R999 if the service was never delivered. However, I would say leave it. It means we have your request on file and can add you once the area becomes live or preorder becomes available.

We're looking into this - but this is DLINK's firmware choosing the location etc. We don't alter it in any way.
On the other hand, nobody understands the internet like the Russians.
I've got our guys looking into this - I am sure we'll get you connected ASAP.
