Im in the Phase 2 of the upgrades and it said it will be done today, at latest, what time should i see the upgrade take effect before its considered a problem?

20/20 to 50/50 on vuma.
i'm on phase 1 and yet to be upgraded so that should give you an idea.

Hi @AfriGuy @AfriFella @Afrihost-Gian

I signed up for Afrihost Pure Fibre on Openserve, and need to now migrate to another ISP. I looked at your terms and it states as long as I am outside the six month window I don't get any cancellation fees?

My PPPoE username and password was given to me on 8 November 2019, I was effectively a customer from this date, so counting November, December, Jan, Feb, March and April - if I sent my cancellation in to have effect end of April I don't have to pay any cancellation fees, right?

Odd. Ping is higher to EU but games subjectively "feel" more responsive, latency wise, on this routing / backbone.

It is from the activation date/month. I signed up and got my details on the 2nd of september 2019, cancelled for end of march and didn't have to pay any fees.

Not sure if i'm dreaming or what but my 100Mbps Openserve line seems to be upgraded
to 200Mbps.

Clientzone still shows 100Mbps

Anyone else on Openserve getting double the speed?

AFAIK Openserve was excluded from the double up promo

@AfriMan

Hi, a few days ago i saw in my CZ under my package that it said something about a free upgrade to 50Mbps but now i log in and that message is gone? Bugged or what.

Thanks.

Wasn't imagining it. I see WACS is back. Latency is 30-40ms better, but in-game it feels like a worse connection. Very bizarre.

Edit: I forgot about AH's horrible routing from London to the rest of EU. That would explain it.

They are lying and incompetent. It's a sad. When I cancelled with Supersonic my service was cancelled on the 26th line was in the holding pool an hour or so later. Line was working fine but Afrihost api did not migrate it so it stopped working like 7 days later. They manually migrated and 1 hour later it was working fine.

I tried to see if the line is still active like you suggested. I checked on my VC account under the fiber self management portal, and saw that my account still reflected on my profile, and was active for April. But then when I tried to log into the VC managed router, it looked like they locked me out and changed the password.

Managed to get back in as someone on the MyBB forum managed to obtain the default login for all VC routers. I then saw they changed my fiber account access details in the router to a guest account but which didn't provide any internet throughput.

So I changed it back to my account, and internet is back up and running again. Also disabled TR-069 remote management, so they can't access and change anything again.

At least now I have internet access until they sort out this line migration mess.

What I have been able to learn is that they only sent the ONT release request to Openserve 22 days after I submitted my cancellation request to them. So they effectively cancelled my service, but not the line. And expect me to sit without internet for a month because they have an active service on the line. The incompetence is staggering!

No line speed upgrade in Morningside durban as yet.on 10/2. Has anyone in Durban been upgraded as yet?

Shocking really! Yeah I think Openserve requires a month notice or so so they lied to you because they made a mistake. It's fine use it like that at least you can do that. If they stop or block you pull that router out and use any other router and dial a adsl account as a temp account while you wait.

Openserve fibre is exactly like adsl. You can switch between accounts as you like. You can also dial multiple ISPs at the same time. You can add a 5 or 8 port switch from LAN1 on the ONT and then you can plug multiple devices in and dial the pppoe session from multiple ISPs or dial the pppoe session directly from gaming consoles to get an Open nat situation.

That is one of the reason why I really like Openserve fibre.

lol yes, I like Afrihost as an ISP, but when it comes to their latency in games hosted in EUW, it's quite bad compared to some other ISP's. I used to get about 30-50ms lower when I was with CISP. I live in CPT, usually I got like 150ms +- with CISP.

This is not too bad though, just wish I would get the same latency when in game:

Hi guys. Sorry about that, but Openserve clients are not being upgraded.

They are using a mixture of Telkom, Angola Cables and Seacom. They pick up Seacom in CPT. WACS came back online this morning so Seacom transit is now going over WACS. So that is why you are seeing the low pings now.
