Who else here claimed the Hauwei AX3 modem afrihost recently started sending out?

How do you guys feel the wifi range is compared to other modems?

I have set mine on "Max" under the wifi strength option yet my signal is weaker than that of what I used to get with my DLink modem. I connected both next to each other and walked around my house and outside.

I'm considering switching the Dlink back to my main modem, but I just want to find out here first if maybe I'm doing something wrong or how I can boost my signal?

I set one up for a family member, I was quite disappointed with the WiFi range. Barely gets through a wall.

Even the WS5200 had fairly poor WiFi signal

@MidnightZA what advanced WiFi settings does the router have ?

Ill have to check later when I get home. But if I remember correctly, there is only the wifi strength option under advanced settings. That I have set to max.

Thanks. I guess Ill have to switch back to my Dlink. Ill use the Huawei as an AP for the upstairs guest bedroom.

I really liked the feature to limit device speeds on the Huawei

The D-link has very good wifi coverage. It allows TX power to be increased 300% above the normal wifi coverage.

The WS5200 has very crappy wifi reception. DIR-825 a bit better but I've put my parents back on the Tenda AC6 they got from Home-Connect - that thing blows both of AH's free routers away when it comes to WiFi range.

Anyone else been getting random disconnects? I've had around 5 over the last 48 hours that I know about. Disconnects and reconnects pretty much instantly...

Not seeing any general issues.

Did you rule out the router?

FYI, there is an issue server-side on your DHCP server, whereby a router can't get an IP address unless it clones the MAC address from the first computer to have connected to the Afrihost network.

Basically the DHCP server is refusing to give a DHCP lease unless the request contains that particular computer's MAC address.

The workaround is to login to your router and chose the 'Clone your PC's MAC Address' option.

So this could be a problem if someone's PC dies and they buy/borrow another one, because they won't have the original MAC address.

You need to fix this issue asap!!!

You should always get a lease but will not have internet until you have done the user mapping which is done via the login.afrihost.com activation page.

I don't think you undertand what I'm trying to tell you: unless the router you are using has cloned the MAC of the computer you originally used to activate, the DHCP server is refusing to renew its lease.

So basically one day your Internet dies, and no one knows why, because everything else seems fine.

I spent over an hour earlier with your support team until we figured this out.

We always grant an IP lease to EVERY mac address that connects to our network. The login page will load asking the client to activate the line.

If I'm not mistaken you have a FrogFoot line right?

There is an issue with FrogFoot. DHCP requests are not reaching our server. Frogfoot will be moving a large amount of clients to a new vlan to address the issue while a upgrades will be made for a permanent fix.

I see what you're saying, but that is not my experience at the moment, because my router is unable to get a DHCP lease.

yes, I have a FF line.

but if DHCP requests are not reaching your server, how come I can get a DHCP lease if, and ONLY if I clone my PC's MAC address in my router? If I use my laptop's MAC address, it's also not getting an IP.

The mac address lease is already granted. New Mac addresses are not getting leases. FrogFoot is working on the issue and a fix is being implemented tonight to address the issue.
