We're in Despatch, just outside of Port Elizabeth, had no real issues this weekend.

But looks like it's hit us this morning
Hi, we do apologise for the inconvenience caused. We are trying to get the issue resolved as soon as possible

Doesn't mean much on my end, router and ONT and been green all through the downtime... last failure at around 11 was just in time, had just finished an online meeting. Come on again sometime between 12 and 1.
Same this side.

My green light that counts is on my Mesh base node though: that indicates an actual viable connection. Unlike ONT & Router and their untruthful green lights.

My base node has got this lovely purple colour when internet is down. It's placed against the wall in the passage, so there's been a fairly constant glow in that area this weekend... :D

Mine is actually blue and yellow.

This is up

Hi guys,

Seeking some advice on my newest MetroFibre fibre install with Afrihost.

Got it up and running today and it's flying(thanks to some great work by Afrihost, MFN and Afrinatic). However just having a recurring issue which I'm hoping to get some insight on:

- From time to time the internet connection is lost and does not come back on on its own. I was wondering if it was the Calix ONT which might be the issue - but it seems like something to do with the WAN port connection.

- I am using the provided Huawei WiFi AX3(WS7100) on this firmware version - 10.0.5.27(C1539). I tried waiting to see if it is like DSL with a dropped connection that needs to resync etc, but it is not that, and the Calix does not reflect an offline 'Broadband' or 'Service' light either. What does fix it, is clicking the 'Reconnect' button in the Huawei wifi routers connect to internet screen.

-The router is a distance away from the Calix ONT, connected via an older CAT5 ethernet cable - could that be the issue? Going to get a new 20m cable tomorrow just in case, but just checking if anybody else has any insight?

Thanks

Hi,

When you say the internet connection is lost an does not come back what exactly are the symptoms?

Is the broadband and service light still on on the ONT? Do you lose a DHCP lease? Does the wifi router from us show a red light?

EDIT: I check the optic levels and they seem a bit high which might be causing the issue.

Hey AN (had to be you :)),

- It's happened 3 times since I've went online around 7PM today. Not sure on everything, so 1st time I rebooted without looking, 2nd time I just clicked 'Reconnect' from the router admin console itself.

- Third time, went to the lounge to have a quick look - yes, broadband and service light are still on on the ONT.
- Wifi router iirc had a green light..
- DHCP lease, are you talking about local LAN DHCP from router - does not seem to be the case as Internet does stop working across mutiple devices, however did not keep an 100% eye out for it tbh.
EDIT: My box seems to have retained lease from 6:40PM..

- I will do more of a process of elimination and correctly examine the router light, DHCP lease etc a bit closer if/when it happens again.

EDIT: I check the optic levels and they seem a bit high which might be causing the issue.

Cool - let me know if anything can be found in relation to that which might be the issue..

Bloody hell.

09:03 off.

@AfriNatic: what is lacking here is guidance/info about what’s happening.

We’re now back up (09:13), but this isn’t a tenable situation for your customers, and Afrihost is noticeably absent in the amount and the quality of info coming out.

Morning Please note the update from FrogFoot below.

We are aware of the ongoing connectivity outages that have affected our network in several parts of the country on Friday and over the weekend and are working toward resolving all issues as a matter of priority.
We are undergoing a major network upgrade, which included migrating a portion of our network from a previous equipment vendor, Extreme Networks, to our current equipment vendor Juniper Networks, and this has resulted in some teething issues that are continuing. These problems have only affected a small portion of our overall network.
One of the ongoing issues has to do with network equipment that is used to aggregate hundreds or thousands of subscribers, known as optical line terminals (OLTs), of which we have hundreds around the country. Following the network migration, these OLTs have started rebooting randomly, making it difficult to identify the root cause. This affects the network nationally and all customers connected to the specific OLTs will be affected while the device reboots.
