I'm getting a normal ping to some networks in Europe. Unfortunately all the gaming servers/services I use are on networks where your routing gives me >= 400ms ping

Again, notice how it reaches 375ms at the first hop in Europe.

Mine looks pretty normal. A tad bit high on the last hop but yeah.

Now try the IP address I was going to. It really depends on which network you're going to. My traceroute to the BBC also looks fine. Unfortunately the BBC doesn't host any game servers I use :P

Same results as you.
Might be a bad link on that side?

It seems like this particular server is particularly difficult. Notice that latencies are really awesome just before we hit their network, and then they're horrible. We've asked MTN's international network team to find out if there is any way to improve this, but we'll have to wait until they give us some feedback on this :(

I'm really sorry you feel that way. It's not exactly our finest hour right now, but I do believe that we will make sure that we compensate for this in favour of our clients :(
One can only listen to the same song so many times..........then it become boring. Same old same old.

It's been like this for about a month already. I can play games on an account with a different ISP while we wait :P

i didn't read the whole thread. what's the problem? i'm a little pissed about the situation, because it's the second time i've signed up, and i talked a whole bunch of people into joining. they all think i'm an idiot now, and i have to facilitate the line going back to telkom and so on. not great.

I think if you catch anyone on a bad day, they may not always have their best foot forward, but we believe that our clients stick with us becuase we always make sure they win in the end. Last year we had some issues with our move across networks. And that lasted a lot longer than anyone would have like. We then rewarded our clients without nearly to months of being completely unshaped on Uncapped accounts, as well as a few mystery discounts and bonuses through the year.

We will definitely make sure that once we're running at full steam all our clients feel that they came out on top, no matter what the cost is to us :)

yes but i was asking what the current problem is.

So, if not for Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback, what exactly is an Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback thread meant for? Please enlighten me.

Discussing why you think Afrihost is throttling and not shaping is not feedback on your uncapped account. Neither is discussing how you think their "recommended use" is unsuitable. Stop with the provoking attitude dude. You aren't gonna win a bloody medal for being right.

I've duly noted that you think that the Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback thread should solely be used for you complaining about people giving feedback about Afrihost's uncapped ADSL products,

I think in general we're showing excellent gaming results on other servers in the EU and the US, so we're mostly happy. We'll do our best to see what we can do on this routing :)

Again, this is not what this thread is for. Please take this offline if you're planning to take this to a personal level, guys :(

Well, unfortunately you also classify some games as P2P, so they get throttled to the ground. For example with a game like OpenTTD, connecting to a server is so slow that you get booted from the server because the connection phase is taking too long.

actually, technically, it is exactly that.

feedback
ˈfiːdbak
noun
1.
information about reactions to a product, a person's performance of a task, etc. which is used as a basis for improvement.

yes but i was asking what the current problem is.

We are currently seeing a higher demand trend than we had predicted based on signups and month on month usage. So we're currently having to shape more than we would like, and we are doing our best to unshape or shape less wherever we can. Today was exceptionally difficult as demand, particularly for Apple Services, was extremely high. We saw a few spikes in latency through the day, but these seem mostly back to normal again, and we seem to be back to a reasonable comfort level, although shaping is still a lot heavier than we'd like for now :(

If it's P2P, then it gets shaped. We're fairly comfortable with that. We've gotten advice from overseas network managers for ISPs and we take our cues from their advice.

I've just pointed out that you're being unnecessarily provoking and that's how you respond? Honestly, grow up. Not gonna entertain this. Like AfriMan said, this is not what the thread is for. Going back into lurker mode now.

thanks. any idea when this is going to stop?

Well, it's a game, using a standard client-server network model. It's not P2P. Yet it gets throttled to the ground by you guys.
