I've just pointed out that you're being unnecessarily provoking and that's how you respond? Honestly, grow up. Not gonna entertain this. Like AfriMan said, this is not what the thread is for. Going back into lurker mode now.

It's good to see you use the thread for what it's meant for.

Well, it's a game, using a standard client-server network model. It's not P2P. Yet it gets throttled to the ground by you guys.

We use the packet signature, not the protocol. If it looks like P2P to us, and we classify it as P2P, then it will be shaped. According to the shaping policy that you're on.

So my point stands: You classify some games as P2P and they get throttled into the ground.

Some games have a P2P nature, we diagnose it from the packet signature. If it's classified as P2P by the same standards used by most major networks, it will be shaped.

he actually makes a good point. essentially, you're incorrectly identifying some traffic.

I don't think that is the case. We are correctly identifying the peer to peer nature of traffic, whether it's downloads or gaming. If that is the case, we shape. I think that's a pretty clear policy :)

Why is it when there are so many people complaining about the same issues on the same accounts from all over the country we always get told "your line isn't syncing correctly" or "it's the exchange" or something related to the line, yet people on Telkom products have no issue. Surely by now you would have realized the problem is on your side? I have just checked everything on a uncapped Telkom account and now it's perfect. Great ping and great speeds.

We are currently seeing a higher demand trend than we had predicted based on signups and month on month usage. So we're currently having to shape more than we would like, and we are doing our best to unshape or shape less wherever we can. Today was exceptionally difficult as demand, particularly for Apple Services, was extremely high. We saw a few spikes in latency through the day, but these seem mostly back to normal again, and we seem to be back to a reasonable comfort level, although shaping is still a lot heavier than we'd like for now :(

I think some clients might have noticed the shaping. :p

Shaping is currently at 50/50.

Saying that. Tonight streaming seems a lot better than last night. No packet loss like I mentioned to AfriGuy earlier today.

If you read through several of the posts you'll see that there are different experiences from different clients. We have to ensure that we troubleshoot every complaint thoroughly and with due diligence. Rather that than say "We're having problems with our network, please try again later" and then you've waited a while to see that issue fixed, we find out that there is actually a fault on your line that could have been fixed much much sooner.

I think regardless of the issue, every client would want their reported issue to be investigated thoroughly so that what can be fixed or improved today can be identified, and if they do have to wait for a long term solution it's only if it's absolutely the only solution available.

Agree / Don't Agree? :)

I completely agree, but you have to admit, this is the 2nd part of a thread about the Afrihost uncapped account mostly about problems. So there has to be something wrong on your side as well.

Really - I hadn't noticed anyone unhappy about shaping. Are we on the same threads? ;)

Glad you're real time is awesome - let's hope they stay that way as we manage the demand on the network and things stabilise :)

I think you'll find there have been more complaints from the last 3 weeks or so, prior to that it was a lot more compliments and awesome feedback. Also, remember that MyBB is not all our clients, we have tens of thousands of clients, some who are even now reporting a good internet experience. I think assuming anything good or bad is just a bad thing at any time. Even if there is a common problem, we need to troubleshoot to gather real data to support our theories - so I really think being thorough is always the best course of action.

I don't think that is the case. We are correctly identifying the peer to peer nature of traffic, whether it's downloads or gaming. If that is the case, we shape. I think that's a pretty clear policy :)

And when you throttle (some) games so hard that it's impossible to even connect, much less play, I don't think you in good faith can say that your accounts are good for gaming. After all, my neighbour watching cats on Youtube (which takes 100 times as much bandwidth as my game) is much more important...

Which game are you referring to?

You say it's gaming, we say it's peer 2 peer, you say we throttle, we say we shape - I think we're going into familiar territory here.

Packet identification on networks is designed by people a lot smarter than me and we go according to their lead and international standards. So yes, your neighbour watching his singing cat is a higher priority than a peer to peer anything - on this Uncapped product. If you want to play peer to peer games, or run any peer to peer services without being shaped - you should look at an unshaped product, or Turbocharge for the hour that you want to play.

I'm very happy to say our accounts are good for gaming. I game on my PS3, Xbox and Wii U all the time, it's perfect. Lots of clients game on other servers without an issue. If it's peer 2 peer, it's shaped when we shape - we are pretty comfortable with that.

Is there something up with the News Servers ? Is Afrihost locking it down? I even loaded a TurboBoost, but no go.

My news downloader has been doing this all day:
[21:13:55] ERROR NNTPSocket - Server:news.afrihost.co.za NNTPServer: Timeout - Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[21:13:27] ERROR NNTPSocket - Server:eunews.blocknews.net NNTPServer: Timeout - Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[21:14:04] ERROR NNTPSocket - Server:eu.news.astraweb.com NNTPServer: Timeout - Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[21:14:27] ERROR Socket - Error: WSARecv Socket Error Code: 10060 A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

All dead? Rest of my internet is fine....

According to Afrihost, this, everyone, is a P2P app, not a game:

And if you think otherwise, it's just a matter of opinion.
