Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Downloaded 70gigs on a 2mb account and I'm being heavily shaped. Last month I downloaded 370gigs and the month before 406. This is really getting out of hand.

remember they shape based on historical paterns as well, they do not only look at the last couple of days or hours

I just feel that it's unfair that there are people that are still allowed to download huge amounts while others are shaped horribly. We have discussed it and will probably switch ours back to 100gig capped but I feel then I will rather give another ISP a chance even if it costs a little more. Starting to feel Afrihost is just way oversubscribed.

Sorry that we've let you down :( Our shaper is setup to do it's best to allow for the best and most fair experience for all of our users.

When is this going to get sorted out ?? its been almost 2 weeks

I've got your PM, I'll add these details onto the open investigation we're running on your account.
Sorry it's taken long, I've got a stack of PM's that I still need to go through :(

Well im always on the forums in Hon. And this is there latest update with regards to high ping.

"" Edit2: Here's an update on the situation:

After we noticed there was a problem with the EU pings, we put in a ticket with SoftLayer.

The next week we talked to SoftLayer about the issue and it turns out that the issue is not with SoftLayer either. The true issue lies with the European ISPs and they've been experiencing multiple reports about this issue.

Ultimately, anyone who is experiencing this issue should contact their personal ISP and report the issue there. Hopefully this will result in those ISPs fixing their service and everyone having better pings! ""

So what exactly must afrihost do here to sort this out ?

It's a bit of a tough one to determine, to be completely honest :(
If it was wider spread we'd be able to run better tests across the board and fix a potential issue from there. I can't speak for anyone else, but my open tasks for the moment only have a mention of this on your case. We'll do our best to analyse as much data as possible to have this sorted out.

Is anyone else on the forums experiencing similar problems?

This traceroute looks to be exchange related, I can't really tell as the first 3 hops are edited so not sure if he's using a VPN or something - but hop 2 indicates a problem on the exchange/ line here :(

But then u run a traceroute to this ip 5.153.24.242 and see ur results. That is one of the gaming servers Hon is played on in Eu.

Hey.

I pmed u those details u asked for about the bad pings I get when I play Hon to Eu. I sent u traceroutes one where Telkom gets sub 250 and afrihost gets over 350.

I forget if it was u or afriguy I sent these details to a week ago, but it hasn't been sorted out yet :(

I think it was me, my bad.

I got feedback that there was congestion on our overseas link at the time, but it should have normalised. Are you still getting the same results. Please PM me new tests so I can re-escalate this query :(

I definitely hear you - I think we're all wondering who those people are and what they are downloading.

The reality is that any system is built on a variety of needs. And as one client who (very bravely and awesomely) confessed to being on the leaderboard as he was replacing software for his work purposes, it's maybe a mistake to assume that these are selfish people who don't care how they affect the rest.

In my opinion, there is really a place for all clients on the network. Without the heavy users, we can break through our usage barrier and get better pricing for the smaller users. Without the smaller users we wouldn't be able to support the mid-range users who want a little more bandwidth at a great price. It all has to come together in the right mix that allows us to give everyone great value for their money in a sustainable way. It's a complex balancing act, but I believe it always swings in our clients favour a lot more than the opposite :)

Here's a result from my personal ADSL connection, doesn't look too bad until around hop 11.

Downloaded 70gigs on a 2mb account and I'm being heavily shaped. Last month I downloaded 370gigs and the month before 406. This is really getting out of hand.

When most other users are subsidising your account, I'd just say thanks ;)
Comment of the day tho :D
