This is not strictly relevant to the throttling vs shaping debate, but just to let you know that you can go to an iStore and they'll pop Mavericks onto a USB drive for you. That will save you 5gbs of data at least ;)

Great tip. I also notice that Windows and Mac users are very different in their habits. Most Windows users will download an update, burn a dvd and then use it on their machines. Mac users will run updates on all their machines.

This is a gross generalisation, but I've seen it a few times and thought it was odd. :(

I would say typical but then again it is easier pulling updates from repositories in linux therefore easier on each machine, then again the updates are tiny usually
 
Because people like you are still getting it wrong, partly in thanks to Afrihost's marketing efforts.

Like I said, semantics are not really helping anyone here, and this debate is older than our network. If there any practical difference between what we say and what you think we're saying, can we focus on that? :)
 
Whether you want to call it shaping, evolution or [insert word here] I do think we've been very clear and transparent about how we do things. I don't think there's anything to be gained from semantics.

If you really wanted to be clear and transparent about it, you'd call your products "Youtube access" and not "internet access". As it is now, your throttling policy means that you will stop me from getting work done because my neighbour wants to watch a video of a cat on Youtube.

Well, you asked why we were still discussing this, and then injected your ignorance into the thread as it if were fact. The reason why we're still discussing this is because you, and other people like, feel like doing like you do. Stop doing what you do and this discussion will die down.

Then please relook, throttling can be profile specific as well and has no basis on usage

Again, I really don't think this is very helpful. This is like the two towns in the Dr Seuss book who fight over whether bread is buttered on the top or the bottom.

We're not disagreeing on the functional or practical aspects of how we manage Uncapped traffic, so what does it really matter whether we use one word or another. I think it's been pretty much established that either is acceptable depending on the context. In the South African context, throttling is throttling your line - on everything. I think it makes sense that we don't want our clients to be confused.

I think it's safe to move on now :(

Why are you arguing about this? It's not like your quotes, opinions and facts are gonna change the way Afrihost do things on their network. Why don't we just use this thread to do what the title says: Feedback, and not a What-I-think-you're-doing-wrong thread
