South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
Well, you asked why we were still discussing this, and then injected your ignorance into the thread as it if were fact. The reason why we're still discussing this is because you, and other people like, feel like doing like you do. Stop doing what you do and this discussion will die down.
Then please relook, throttling can be profile specific as well and has no basis on usage
If you really wanted to be clear and transparent about it, you'd call your products "Youtube access" and not "internet access". As it is now, your throttling policy means that you will stop me from getting work done because my neighbour wants to watch a video of a cat on Youtube.
Why are you arguing about this? It's not like your quotes, opinions and facts are gonna change the way Afrihost do things on their network. Why don't we just use this thread to do what the title says: Feedback, and not a What-I-think-you're-doing-wrong thread
So not to annoy anyone but my line is running beautifully again...

He misquoted wikipedia, I quoted it correctly, I can do it again as it is by now a page ago
Sparke, Zertop won't quote any source, because the source for his make-himself-feel-good message was his lower rear.

Yup, I was wrong.... sorry
I think we had a chat about this at some point. Your neighbour's usage may affect the network, but your real time service is always preserved.
Cool, this is the point I want to bring across, we have been taught that a throttle is a complete slow down, that shape is protocols specific, uncapped is unlimited and throttled is capped. we have been taught to completely disregards an AUP and terms and conditions, we take advantage of every loop hole, eg will be to bypass a cancellation notice period.
we have been taught so wrong and I wish to open a few eyes here. I am glad you have seen the light and hopefully when you notice that you are shaped to 18% you will realize it is a rate limit and therefore it can only be described as throttle and not shaped

Guys, it's not cool to attack other forumites who are giving their opinion.
AfriGuy said:Thanks for standing up for us here, we really do appreciate it!FFS They (Afrihost) do not shape users individually like Mweb, they shape the network based on total load with prioritising certain services. Is that so hard to fathom?
well then with that logic youtube should also be throttled to 18% but it isn't, because it's a real time service and so not shaped
I completely agree. But how come it is OK for an Afrihost representative to thank someone for swearing at and insulting someone else for stating a fact?
In case you missed it a couple of pages back...
Well, if so, then you clearly forgot all about itBut whether or not you think 'my realtime service' is 'preserved', the fact is that due to your throttling policies, if my neighbour is watching cats on Youtube, it will degrade my internet connectivity because you think that watching cats on Youtube is more important than whatever I use my internet connection for.
We agreed that Uncapped is the product which we designed for the general purposed we feel best suited our clients from the market research and feedback we receive. I think you must remember that MyBB represent a small (but vocal) portion of our client base, but also a very particular segment of the internet using public. The rest of the moms and pops out there have very different needs and I actually had a chat with a gentleman today who was never aware that he has ever been shaped (even though he had been) becuase he only uses real time services and for the first time wanted to do a download when we were shaping heavily.
As I've said, we have several products to choose from to suit your needs. I think we have pretty much everyone covered and it's up to each client to decide what will work better for them.

So you agree that all the heavy users have been on the wrong package then?
