Doubt that my crappy Telkom DuoPlus router will be able to do that. :P

Should it be like that though? The account is not saturated by torrents like Sinbad mentioned. Only one torrent at a time, +- 350kBps, but yet browsing suffers. :/

Torrents are a very good way to pump bandwidth on your line. Becuase you're uploading and downloading constantly, you'll have less than a fraction of a polony skin left if you're downloads are maxing your line out!

Not sure what's going on. Seems a little erratic/slow...

Look and see if your router configuration has something labeled NAT, ports, firewall etc . See if you can open up more of them , usually 1024.

Hey Afriman, could you please confirm whether Afrihost requires a full calendar months' notice for cancellation, or can you still cancel before the 25th of any month? There's a bit of confusion regarding the information on your site.

If you require a full calendar months' notice, could you also perhaps please post the justification for it in this thread? I'm going to try and see if I can get a response for the use of these notice periods from most ISPs. Thanks. :)

You can cancel any data service before the 25th of any month, regardless of when you signed up, which takes effect at the end of the month. After the 25th, we start our billing run, and then we only allow cancellations for the following month.

No issues on the network that I'm aware of. Please DM if you're still battling :(

Then why would this problem still occur, even when torrents are limited to 50kBps on a 4mb line? :/

As soon as I close my torrent client, (even with the speed limitation in place), my HTTP browsing returns to normal and all is well. Open up the client again, and all hell breaks loose. Could this be a router issue?

It's hard to say, but it sounds like traffic is in contention on your own line. Maybe run something BitMeter so you can see how different traffic affects your overall throughput. To my knowledge we do run QoS on traffic on Uncapped, but how long this takes to affect traffic is not clear (I'll have to check with the network people). Generally with Capped accounts whatever you run on your line competes with other services, so that may be the initial "shaping by contention" which is happening.

Have to say I had some doubts joining Afrihost.
But I must admit I'm really impressed for the price its amazing im running so smoothly speeds are good and no real shaping :) only problems were last month but wasn't really in their control, only complaint I have is there support via telephone wasn't good at all had an issue with that. Other then that keep it up Afrihost.

Try restricting the number of simultaneous connections. Some routers get a bit overwhelmed at the hundreds of connections a single torrent transfer opens.

Glad to hear that in general things are good, but we'll definitely take note on the telephonic support side.

Mind dropping me a PM with some deets? I'd like to look a little further into this to make sure our guys have the right knowledge and training. Just send me the time you called and your username.

Afrihost seems to be borked this morning. Half the pages seems to be timing out. I can't even do a speedtest. On my backup fnb account now.

We're not showing any general hiccups on the network, but glad it's looking normal again.

Drop me a DM if it happens again :(

You've mentioned DM before, typo or some unknown acronym?
DM = Direct Message
It will be a PM here on the forum or on Twitter, Afriman will have to be following you in order for you to send him a direct(private) message.
