It seems mostly normal within our network, but I see one result where it's higher than we'd like. Can I please also see your BRAS ping?
 
You have all my details. On Afrihost account all data is blocked behind my VPN I'm being forced to use axxess pre-paid until 23:00 just to watch Netflix then everything goes to normal again. It's OK I'll be moving to different ISP end of the month.

I've provided Afrihost with all the details they requested and nothing has changed. I've tested the line with a different ISP and experienced no issues. I've send you the proof and I get no comment from support or from this forum when I PM'ed the admins.

Axxess use the same network backbone as us, so it's highly unlikely that you would have a vastly different experience on their accounts than our ours, unless you're comparing a unshaped product with a shaped/throttled one, etc. I don't have the details to really comment further.

If you did send everything through before, please forward to me on [email protected] and I'll see if we can at least improve performance for the remainder of the month while you decide if you want to stay with us or not.

I can't understand how I need to explain this over and over and over! I understand shaping P2P and NNTP and even HTTP if your network is really that bad during peak times to keep the network stable BUT Afrihost shapes EVERYTHING behind a VPN because the data is encrypted instead of using deep packet inspection to confirm what it is.

Is Afrihost telling me that Axxess will also shape encrypted data regardless of what it is? What is Afrihost's stand on privacy?

Your issue is indeed unique and is something that we'll have to investigate and troubleshoot further. I can confirm that AfriMan has received your email and we'll be putting you in touch with our Critical Care Team for assistance.
 
I am having really bad issues when it comes to speed. Don't seem to be getting 4mbps at all on my 4mbps business uncapped.
It seems to float around between 10KB/s and 50KB/s when downloading from PSN.
 
Purely out of interest, what is a good ping to bras? Is 21ms considered on the high side?

Are you seeing poor speeds on speed tests too? How is your streaming performance?

Good question. :) There are multiple factors that will affect latency to your exchange. This already starts at your local network and the connection between your device and you router. Further on, your physical line stats, attenuation and SNR will have a small effect on his connection as well as your modulation and whether you are using Fast-path or interleaving profiles. :)

All in all, I think anything up to 25ms is considered a good ping to Bras.

What service speed are you meant to be on?

4MBps, so that seems about right. The line stats seem fine to me as well.

Some tracerts, my internet has been sluggish in all aspects, streaming, p2p and browsing, at first I thought my wifi was acting up but it's clearly either Telkom or Afrihost as I've tried 2 different routers, seems like it's getting worse everyday, I have reset multiple times over the past 2 weeks with no change, will be trying a trial account later to confirm the culprit and take action from there.

This sounds pretty much what I am experiencing as well.

How do your speedtests look at the moment? Which DNS Servers are you using?
 
Upload also seems to be dead.


Sigh, ping is also bad on TS, prolly in game too.


Is this what R800 pm gets me?
