Afrihost Uncapped DSL Feedback

ok bras does ping 15ms now. lets say peak is over or shorter due to the upgrades

Yup could not download latest nvidia drivers ... Sure ipc in place ... Sure doesn't seem that way

Could be normal shaping on your Uncapped account. You are on a Premium Uncapped account right? Not a Business Uncapped account?

Which DNS servers are you using at the moment? How do your speedtests look?

I was contacted today and asked to try the telkom guest account

From the looks of it, the traces seem fine tonight apart from a timeout now and then but the speedtest is dismal. 160kb upload, still on 6mb :(
Going to try telkom account now

I think it's a little bit unfair calling us these names. :( We're always hear to assist, pass along feedback and expedite queries. We have also been open in announcing upgrades and any other network related queries as we get information from our team where others might have remained silent. We'll continue to be active on My Broadband as well as on other platforms to try and provide the best experience for our clients.

Vooitog... Should we sit and shed a tear now? I can't believe you're still trying to defend your actions.

I couldn't agree more! Definitely profound words. :) It always has been, and always will be our top priority to ensure that our Clients have the best experience possible. At the end of the day we are here to delight our Clients.

I'll definitely take this to heart!

Clearly, you don't understand why this has been posted.

I'll rather reply on this forum, it sometimes feel that talking to the support staff over the phone is a waste of time. "Is the green light on the router on? ...", really? I have a Mikrotik router which controls my NAT/Firewall/QoS/etc. in front. When I do tests, I completely throttle all the phones including the machine not doing the test so that the test is pure. I have already circumvented the Mikrotik (for incase the problem is there) and went straight onto the ADSL router. I run the tests using 2 machines (maybe network cable?) and on my phone. Same results always.

I did the tests with the Telkom account. The traces are a whole lot better. The only pings >30ms were to Afrihost servers, which as per my previous posts, is where I get the massive latency between the different Afrihost servers.
Speedtest is still dismal on download but a whole lot better on upload. I did the speed test again using Afrihost account for in case the first test was a bad spike but it still couldn't get to the telkom upload.

So, it's either the line being faulty (as indicated by the dismal sync rate/slow download) or within Afrihost itself
Another thing, these tests were done half an hour ago, not now. Had to put my son to bed and when I came back, typed further, tried to post and it sent me to the login page, post gone :). So this still falls before 10pm where my internet is still in it's fail state, after 10 the telkom tests wouldn't be fair :P

Oh and the lady mentioned that it might be congestion on the exchange, but by that logic I won't ever be able to use my internet at night again for anything unless 500 people randomly drop off the exchange when I want to do something? Not even mails which doesn't make sense so I doubt that :(

I'm sorry to hear that you are so upset. :( We always take care and pride on being active and open in our community and engaging with our Clients on as many platforms as possible. Without your feedback we would not be where we are today.

Lol, been reading some of the posts ... don't feed the trolls. If they don't like Afrihost, go to Telkom and listen to that waiting music on the phone for 2 hours where after the line mysteriously drops. Atleast I have had less downtime and quicker responses with Afrihost and is currently the best in my opinion. I have had more problems with Afrihost than with Imaginet though, but they are more expensive and have a stricter shaping policy (if I had downloaded half of what I do with Afrihost per month my internet would be shaped into oblivion at the middle of the month ...)
I do agree with some of the people that have responsibilities to account for (e.g. the guy not being able to tell his clients why x,y,z) but it is what it is, I suppose

Thanks for your in-depth testing and providing us with such detailed info. It really makes troubleshooting a lot easier. :) What Telkom account did you use to test with? I think it might be a good idea to test with one more test account to completely rule out exchange issues (not that these traces suggest congestion in any way).

If you're getting the same poor speedtest results on more than one ISP account it might suggest that the issue is indeed with your line and I'd love to check out the sync stats as well as your connection history. I think a great place to start would be for you to PM me your line and account info and we'll take it from there. :)

If this is a IPC issue why the hell does a ISP have to buy IPC, cant they just bill the ISP for what they used then they pay it at the end of the month like cellphone account?

Getting additional IPC involve physical hardware upgrades. This is why it's not really something that can be charged "Out of Bundle". ;)

Why is steam gaming so terrible? CSGO lags insanely but again only on my one account.

i will switch back from telkom accounts(wich are working perfectly) when the gaming is done. then ill test the bras. I dont think my latency results will make a difference? currently on telkom is - 40meg 25ms - 20meg 15ms avg. I know the bras will be fast as its such a speedy ip! even when afrihost is bad that ip flies.

bad%20pings4_zpsubamqjfj.jpg

this is both on the 20m line. right is a steam server. its actually not that bad. congestion probably lessening now.

Having minimum issues today. lets look at 7-10.

Thanks Afri-peoples

please keep it this way
