Afrihost's Pure 5G

Screenshot 2022-11-08 at 15.04.43.png

This is greyed out on the Afrihost supplied router.

Unfortunately the selection remains locked even with this change,
I need to change this as well to force 5G. I get < 10mb/s during peak time every evening which is the same performance as their LTE network. I am sure the router is using LTE instead of 5G. If I use my 5G phone and force it to 5G then it is well above 200 mb/s.

Yes I've seen very strange performance. From 8am Monday morning its been crawling and then all of a sudden on Tuesday back to normal after load shedding. Almost like someone gets to work and gets all their game downloads cued up on Monday morning.

The ZTE actually does 4 LTE carrier aggregations + 1 x n78 5G carrier to give the speeds it does.

Yes i think it may be using the 4 x LTE CA for the upload only though - seems to like hanging around on 1800mhz still the Speedtest starts the upload portion and then kicks in the rest of the bands.

Is the fixed 5G band different to the band that a phone would use when set to 5G only? Trying to work out if this thing is in any way using their 5G network for data transfer. Cause it claims it is connected to 5G and then the performance matches their LTE network exactly. Surely 5G isn't yet saturated in my area?

Are you connected to the WIFI or cable? I've seen vastly different speedtests between the 2.

WIFI. I have tried a Telkom LTE Sim in the router and it gives me > 100mb/s over WIFI. So I think the WIFI should at least be able to give me that on 5G with Afrihost.

Would you please tell me how you got the extra menu in the screenshot? I want to try to click some buttons and see if it can force 5G only.

You can add the contents of this https://miononno.it/files/801/801-zte-v3.0b.min.js into a bookmark and while on the home screen of ZTE load the bookmark.

Adding #debug_page at the end of the zte home url also brings up the debug page. 192.168.0.1/index.html#debug_page

Hi guys

Would Afrihost 5G be worth it for business VOIP, upload speeds and if CGNAT is enabled are important to consider however noticed I do not fall under Pure 5G coverage even though the MTN coverage map shows I am within 5G Coverage

@Afrigirl and @AfriNatic Would this be correct that the coverage is different ?

Hi, are you using the street address to check for coverage?
Yes, it is worth it to have a separate connection dedicated to your VoIP service.
