AMA, Having Telkom FTTH Installed Today

When you sign up for Telkom fibre... do you have to take a package? Can you not get the fibre line only? Already have an afrihost cap that I would like to use... don't feel like switching accounts from Telkom to Afrihost once the Telkom cap is up, and staying on Afrihost means that the Telkom cap is wasted.

If you get the package with web africa. The line will still be under the 24 month contract, but you can cancel the data after the first month.

Just to add to what ajain said

If you call in to WA's Fibre dept and ask to speak to Nicky, tell her you want to have a line only as you want to use a Web Africa Business Capped account she will add it to your account and ask you to sign up for the Capped account yourself - then just don't and you have a naked Fibre line without any data obligations and you can chop and choose without having to wait though the first month to cancel your data account.

The Telkom guys are here busy installing my fibre to the home in Camps Bay. If there are any tests you'd like me to run or questions you'd like me to ask them, let me know. I should be up and running within a few hours.

The details: 20mbps, 50GB Telkom Softcap (Half price special)

I will be updating this page with all the details as and when I get them: http://wp.me/p684ZJ-1L

How long will 50gigs last on ftth 20mbps line?

You can sign up for the naked fibre line without any trickery or funny business.

Just ask for it.

Called WA sales and asked for line pricing - got it in 2 minutes.

VoX as well is advertising line standalone prices on their site. They also run via Telkom FTTH.

Now if only Vox and WA would lower their line only prices based on Telkom's price drop yesterday

Their is no indication that that price reduction was on the line. It could be only the data part...whereby the line is not effected at all.

So neither Telkom nor WA would offer me naked fibre. They both require a bundle. Telkom's cancellation policy is a whole bunch better than WA... who want to try charge the full remainder of the context (which I think would be against CPA to some extent). Telkom quoted me R79 x number of outstanding months... basically for the modem they said.

Will try VOX next.

That is...very strange. Well at least VoX advertises the lines openly.

Very weird from WA...

WA does naked lines. You probably didn't ask for it.

I did... specifically. Spoke to Nicole (Nicky). She said its bundle or no go. Was also told that there was no indication of how quickly the lines were installed and that some had to wait as long as 2.5 months.

I think you also need a WA account of some kind...

As for the install lead time, yes it can take that long.

The Telkom techs did mine in 8 days, but they have 400 plus calls to make to scout and install. An install takes literally a whole day depending on trunking etc.

That and they are understaffed with a lack of vehicles makes it a mess.

Tell her you want to use a WA Business Capped account so signing up for the Bundles wont do.

Well I've spoken to her twice as well and was quoted on line only. Was told they "prefer" to do bundles though. Plus there are people here that have the line only from WA.
