Hi all. new here. new to Fixed LTE as well - with Afrihost (MTN) 300gb...
Been an adsl user for a long time before switching over to LTE this month
was running 200gb cap adsl (also with afrihost) for a few years then went up to 300gb cap a few months ago as i started streaming more (cancelled dstv)
my average consumption per day was always between 10gb and 12gb. thats with downloads/ streaming / os updates / some gaming/ running vpns on a few devices.. the whole lot. (that stats seemed to have included the unlimited after hours data usage)
now twice this week without any hard usage - havent downloaded much or streamed anything really this week. no os updates for pcs or phones done - nothing and my clientzone clocked me using 43gb and then 49gb of data per day. other days state the normal - some 6.7 some 8 to 13
my night time data is still loads i mean i havent even touched the 300gb cap of it yet (still on the 29odd gb pro rata from last month)
but half my anytime(daytime) is gone.

now i mean have suddenly become the proud owner of a bitcoin mining operation that i am unaware of or what in the actual f...?

just want to know if i am sitting alone in this boat. or if someone is experiencing the same.
perhaps one of you have an idea whats going on and what i can look out for. it will be appreciated.

anyway thanx in advance
BP

For starters, have you bothered to have a look at your usage logs to try and corroborate what you are implying?

for starters, are you asking if I looked at my usage logs like i said:

or you just in the mood to be rude for no reason? if you want a screengrab you can just ask nicely

How fast was your ADSL? How fast is your LTE? Youtube and such will adjust the quality based on your speed, higher quality steam means more data using, unless you physically restrict the quality yourself.

He wasn't rude, if you felt that rude the problem is with you, I have no problem with being rude by telling you that.

Session stats breakdown.
A proper detailed investigation not just arbitrary quoting and accusation.

Adjust your Netflix data usage settings
  1. From a web browser, go to your Account page.
  2. Select a profile name from Profile & Parental Controls.
  3. Select Change for Playback settings.
  4. Select your desired data usage setting. Note: ...
  5. Save changes. Your changes will take effect within 8 hours.
Adjust your YouTube data usage settings
Find
your username in the upper-right corner, click it, and then choose Account. 3. Click Playback Setup, then enable the option under Video Playback Quality

Install something like https://www.glasswire.com/ on your devices (I know you mentioned clientzone but I am not sure what that does).

adsl was advertised as 8mbps and the lte i measured at an average of 25mbps or 30mbps. but most of the times i streamed 1080p on both always.. i understand quality would demand more data. but like yesterday i watched maybe 2 youtube videos in the early morning - i checked the stats it was low like sucking thumb here but as was about something like 4gb - in the afternoon and evening we watched local stuff on plex and when i checked usage again i was clocking 40 and going. didnt do anything on my part that demanded huge bandwidth.

i mean on days of low usages i was watching more youtube and downloading content.

thanx Datura. will check youtube. dont have netflix but have showmax will check that.

clientzone is afrihost own app where u can check your relevant usage for the day and account info and that jazz

I have a thread in here where MTN docked data from my account on the days I sat at home without internet waiting for my sim, so yes I've had first hand experience. MTN or their staff either deliberately steal data or they don't know how to account for it. Either way, you lose.

There is no need to "steal data", so it would be a faulty system that doesn't meter and bill correctly,

Cool. Checked it out. I have installed glasswire on all devices that are on my mesh. Using that information alone to kill or tweak data hogging apps has taken my data usage from 10Gig a day to 15Gig a week. I don't stream much and very rarely download (we don't have uncapped LTE on VodaScum here in Moz and data is super expensive).

What do you mean no need to steal data?
Is it not possible to dock data from one account and send it to my mates on these systems? Have you worked there?
It will leave an audit trail if possible. Not worth the trouble.

Is it not possible to dock data from one account and send it to my mate's or resell it at a discount to someone else on these systems? Have you worked there? I'm willing to bet it's not only possible, but lucrative business given their accounting system is up the creek.

I paid full price for that data that I never used. Someone is benefiting.

Have you worked there that you know it's possible? I already gave the cause, a faulty system that doesn't meter and bill correctly,

Because you're not right. Do you need me to explain how simple logic works too?

But OK smarty pants.
Explain how the usage stats look one way one month then a whole month later, look different, then when you complain, they change it up a third time? Three unique usage scenarios. And one showing usage when the sim was in transit.

Gladly. Their billing/data measurement platforms is faulty, it's better than it was when they first deployed it and had lots of issues a couple of years back (probably when you had your issue) but I am sure it still has it;s issues

That and the biggest factor of all. Windows Updates. After a big Windows update our support channels are flooded with request of usage discrepancies.

LMAO.
This was a few months back.
We're talking about MTN here, right?

But since you're not fussy about your usage stats for March looking different:
1) at the end of March
2) at the end of April
And
3) during May after you complain

Then knock yourself out. I don't care if you're an MTN fan or not. And no. It didn't automatically update itself. That was happyfingering on the part of an MTN employee.

Sounds like a system error to me, I doubt an MTN employee will set and edit your March usage stats, cause aint nobody got time for that. MTN can go **** itself for all I care.

So far the MTN Fixed LTE usage has been very accurate. In most cases client left computers to auto update or stream Netflix or other streaming platforms on Auto settings on a Smart TV. Netflix then auto to the highest quality.

A few tests done at the office on 75" Samsung TVs showed an average usage of ~20Mbps. Yoy can imagine on a metered connection what damage it can do.
