I have found that with at least 2 Blackberry Devices running the BIS service from Vodacom that the device does not allow you to access the said free internet without their being an positive balance on your device.

This alarms me since when I check my bills I see no charges for Internet but when I reach my limit I can not access the Internet. I think that this may be a problem for some that Vodacom may need to look at.

RE: TYPE OF SUBSCRIPTION - CONTRACT WITH LIMIT SET

Hi there,

I am a Contract Subscriber on Off-Peak 120, if you would look at one of my threads you will note that I am not very happy with this but nevertheless.

I have a monthly call limit (cap) set and the moment I hit this cap I am unable to use the BIS service. My device then migrates from EDGE to GSM (I can only make calls) and when I try to connect it tells me that my current location is unable to transmit and recieve data (But I know it is not true).

This is VERY frustrating as being an attorney, I constant receive emails to my device and can not access it since IO have hit my cap. I must then increase my cap to use the BIS.

I am not billed for the usage as I have noted in my bill. I have noticed the same problem on one of my friends Blackberry but she uses the BIS on Top-Up 315.

Regards

Well when I was on MTN BIS I never experienced this problem, I was on prepaid. BIS should allow you access to the internet cause it should not be dependent on the airtime available BIS is separate from standard data access.

Call your unhelpful unfriendly call center and find out whats up. VC sucks

bex.cpt, I fully agree with you. I have just subscribed to this contract and the moment I get the change I will terminate the said contract and migrate to MTN. Perhaps this is the time to use my degree in law to sort out an technology related problem for once in my life.

I will go over the Terms and Conditions today and see what remedy I can obtain from Vodacom. I could also possibly lodge a complaint at the consumer tribunal since have violated the Consumer Protection Act.

But will post back depending on what I find. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced a similar problem.

Once your service gets suspended (soft locked) your data service gets barred as well , this is the reason why the blackberry service would not work. This wouls happen to anyone who's line gets softlocked.

Vodacom has the same problem on voice contracts with off-peak minutes. If you go over your spend limit you can't use your off-peak minutes.

On topup or prepaid , if you have no funds in the account , you are still supposed to access the internet from the device , unless you are trying to access something that is not covered by the blackberry subscription have you called the 082155 call centre for assistance?

maybe deleting the internet service book and resending it may solve your problem.

Thank you for all of your kind feedback in this regard. VodacomData, your comments has been noted, yet I believe you understand that this is rather frustrating to a client of Vodacom. Is Vodacom planning on instituting a remedy to that effect or should I just leave it at that? If Vodacom does not plan on remedying the fault I shall have to choose between either, after the contract term, migrating to TopUp or changing service providers.

Hi , the blackberry is not suppose to work in that manner , it must give you internet access with out having a positive balance , however there are certain sites that are not covered by the plan. Please send me your number so we can check the provisioning for you.
