Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

Hi Compu, did you manage to move back the Rain LTE package? I have the Cell C Fixed Wireless package with Afrihost aswell and having big issues with connectivity and I'm now at a point where i will rather completely cancel my service with Afrihost and move to Telkom maybe. They have told me that i will have to pay R999 for cancellation because i took the router deal, however i migrated my package to Cell C and didn't want the router because i was on the Rain LTE connection already and received a LTE router with the package so no need for another one.
Hi Man,

no this fools told me that i need to pay the R999, i have the exact same issue as you and it seems like they want to just rob us of our hard earned cash.

eventually i got a network document to fill out, i wonder what difference that will make.

So hang on you still have to pay the R999 even if you want to migrate back to Rain and not just cancel? I migrated from Afrihost Rain (which was so slow at night it was unusable) to Afrihost Cell-C two weeks ago but the constant disconnects (it now stays disconnected for an hour or more) and disconnects after an hour of being connected it has basically become unusable, I'm forced to use my mobile data.

How in the hell. Afrihost Cell-C is unusable, but you have to pay R999 to cancel on the sim only deal, or keep paying for a service that's not delivered for another 5 months? Afrihost needs to be taken to task for this. How can one get in touch with Mybroadband writers to look into this?

Cell C, where can I get info about coverage in my area? I’ve called your helpline and the only info I got was that they’d install a booster if my monthly spend is R 7,000 or more (seems a weird amount). Is there a booster that I can get myself?

Where I stay I’m lucky to get signal at all. Most of the time at home I get absolutely no signal at all (phone just says no service) and it isn’t unique to you - Vodacom also has no signal, Telkom isn’t in the street (not even copper), no fiber, etc. I’m in a horseshoe shaped dead zone in Midrand and not planning to move, but having to go for a walk every time I need to make a call is annoying. WhatsApp messages can take overnight to go through, SMSs often time out, etc.

I don’t mind buying a booster myself, but my knowledge of this is lacking and the support line couldn’t assist. In this household alone we have a monthly spend of R 2k (four contracts) with you for service we can only get while out and about. MTN coverage on a prepaid SIM is touch and go - will your new MTN roaming agreement sort this out? Or will I need a booster of sorts?

I have sent multiple emails to Afrihost support, no response. The modem has had no signal now since 13:14 today, restarted it 6 times already. Removed the sim and left it off for about 30 minutes. No love.

Hi [XC] Oj101

Do you have good MTN signal? Why don't you try Telkom ? They roam on MTN.

The best way I have found to force the router to reconnect is installing the huaweiHiLink app "make sure your phone is connected to the wifi", in the app after logging in go to ->Settings(gear in right-hand corner)->Network->NetworkCarier->Network Search "make sure prefered network is 4G or the search will take long"->then spam click on cell c 4G as fast as you can.

might only be me but this works 80% of the time in an instant reconnect try i am curious

Trust me man, I lost all hope with this Kak. I have spoken to them many times, they keep saying congestion in the area but there is a freaken tower 800m away from my house. If anything Afrihost is now a scam ISP and I would advise everyone to stay away from them.

Try to PM my broadband and see if you get any luck with a response man.

Dude they are pathetic. I totally feel your pain. Fully agree with you they are a scam operation.

SUPERSTAR! It seems to help to get the connection back faster. I've used it to reconnect on the last three disconnects and I've been able to re-establish the connection quickly every time even if it took up to 17 "spam-clicks" of failed connections before it did so. It beats pulling the modem's wire until I'm blue in the face. Thank you!! Quite pathetic that we have to resort to this. Thank you for the tip.

Yup, I do something similar with the software huawei_band_tool_v0.1. I run the UMTS.sh script, which gives "no service" (with no signal), then the ALL.sh script, which has signal but may or may not connect. It eventually connects, sometimes only after 7 or 8 cycles of this. I've put these 2 commands in shell script, and a cycle takes about 5 seconds. A crap load faster than rebooting the router, and I imagine not as harsh on the router as rebooting 20 to 50 times a day. This software is intended for the B618-22d, but may work on other models as well.

The above is also possible via the router's webpage. However, you would then have to manually log on to the router. So for me running the script is the fastest way to regain connectivity.

Uh, I don’t feel as though you read my post AT ALL.

Dear [XC] Oj101

Thank you for getting back to us.

You can purchase a booster at your own capacity at Poynting Antennas.
Do you have a good MTN coverage and where are you situated?

Let me know if this will make a difference i doubt it.. Cell C needs to step up here as Afrihost is only the reseller of their product.. very surprise Afrihost went with this option by promoting/selling their service but Cell C & Afrihost needs to sort this out very soon otherwise they will regret this in the long run!

Since I last posted here it has been disconnecting on the hour, pretty much every hour. Since around 10 this morning it hasn't been able to connect at all. Even when using the huaweiHiLink app. It keeps failing when trying to get it to connect even though it shows Cell-C 4G as available on a network search.

Still no response from Afrihost support after multiple emails to their support 7 days ago.

@AfriNatic ??
