Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

Wrong.

Vodacom: 1GB = 1024MB

Very wrong.

You need to divide the data into the price to get R/MB. Not the other way around. That would give you MB's/Rand ;)

Here you go:

Cell C ---------- 5GB ---- R299 --- 5.8c/MB (you forgot to use the modem included, contract price ;))
Vodacom ----- 4GB ---- R149 --- 3.6c/MB

Wrong again.

Actually, CC is 61% more expensive than VC in this case.

Very wrong. Please don't jump to conclusions. What was wrong with my calculations?

Cell C ------- 5GB (5120MB) --- R167 pm --- 3.3c per MB
Vodacom --- 4GB (4000MB) --- R149 pm --- 3.7c per MB

R167 / 5120MB = 3.3c per MB
R149 / 4000MB = 3.7c per MB

So is 1GB on vodacom really 1024MB? Source please?

And I did not forget to include the modem. Does vodacom include a modem? Again, source?

Cell C 60GB (once off) for 12 months (5GB per month) = R1999 total.

Conclusion, Cell C is cheaper, Vodacom is still a ripoff.

1) I'm comparing CONTRACT vs CONTRACT, R150 vs R150

2) And even if we take the CellC once-off VS Vodacom contract, The CellC deal is R3000, not R2000, which STILL works out more expensive then Vodacom

3) I would rather pay R150 per month without worrying about signal OR Speed, than blowing R3000 on something I can't even test on a regular SIM (How convenient for CellC that you can't)

4) And even if it WAS that price divided in 12 months, it's still R250 per month VS Vodacom's R149 per month

5) I don't want to worry about OOB Surprises, especially on these fast networks

6) I want carry over

and you also got the 24 month thing wrong, vodacom is also only 12 months

As Jannievanzyl stated I can confirm as a VC user that 1GB= 1024MB but if you still not convinced believe as you wish if it makes you happy.
Have a great day.

"Vodacom --- 4GB (4000MB) --- R149 pm --- 3.7c per MB"

Well I don't see this price anywhere on the Vodacom site under Data Bundles.

I am pre-paid but I checked the In bundles as well and didnt see anything notable.

Or was this a sarcastic statement ?!??!

Sorry, its been a long day.

Maybe he's using one of these?

OMW that tiny square in the center is a monitor

A question?
How does this help the current subscribers?

It doesn't...That's my gripe with them. They will do anything to hook in people, but nothing much for their current customer base.

CC R167 does not include a modem
CC R299 does include a modem & is 12 month contract.
VC R149 does include a modem & is a 12month contract

The voda deal only offers 2GB in the day. All of these comparisons you guys have been making do not work, you cannot compare 2GB with 5GB, or 2GB day usage data with 2GB day + 2GB night data. This is the point I have been trying to make.

What about people who have ordinary day jobs, and are not up during midnight to 5am?
Sure you can setup a download manager to download whilst you sleep, but what if you need that extra data for surfing, or fad's such as facebook and youtube.
It could also lead to problems, such as download managers downloading outside of the midnight to 5am period.

Also, the promotion is only available from 1 May 2011 to 31 July 2011, whereas Cell C is available indefinitely.

The accurate comparison should look more like this:
Cell C ------ 2GB --- R125pm --- prepaid ---- HSPA+ in the big cities (actually get 7Mbps and faster, with lower latencies) ----
Vodacom --- 2GB --- R149pm --- contract --- fair amount of coverage --- 2GB free from midnight to 5am. (does not carry over)

The only reason why they provide this data at midnight to 5am, IS BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN HARDLY ANYBODY IS USING IT, THEREFORE IT IS FASTER, AND THEY CAN AFFORD TO SELL IT AT A VERY CHEAP RATE

Its not a 4 gig contract , its a 2 gig contract with 2 gig night owl

In there terms the word contract is one of those words that gets your mouth washed out with carbolic soap.
