In there terms the word contract is one of those words that gets your mouth washed out with carbolic soap.

Are you assuming that the night owl part is only for 3 months, or do you know it for a fact? The way I see it, is that you can only sign up for this promotion during those 3 months, but you get the same deal for the whole 12 months. Right?

100% correct

And the guys who bought the prepaid Cell C package are still "signed up" for 12 months. No different than signing a 12 month contract.

There is. A big difference. I'm not bound to Cell C for 12 months in any way. If i choose, i can discard my modem and data at anytime. But why would i? Whoooooooosh!! :D

I think the point is you've parted with the same amount of money, sans OOB surprises.

And with Topup that's also a non-issue.

The point is all these people who say they won't take the 2+2 deal from VC because it's a *contract*.

Yet they signed exactly the same contract with Cell C. Except in some cases they've even paid the contract up front. But the 12 month contract is still applicable.

VC will not cap a contract, they just charge OOB rates after the 2Gb. CC only gets to 5GB then stops. That is the (MAJOR) difference.

VC's Topup contracts work the same as pre-paid; you will only be charged OOB rates if you have airtime available.

How many more times must I say Top-Up = NO OOB? Or am I wrong thinking this?

I'm 99% sure it just stopped when i maxed my GF's TopUp SIM

You are correct. Only if you have extra airtime loaded will it get eaten by OOB. If you are looking at a data contract top-up is the way to go.

You're 100% right.

Top-Up is one of those products VC built by "not listening to the customers" who kept on asking for a contract-type solution but with no bill shock.

Just like many other things VC built for this community based on direct requests from mybb members. Like the Unrestricted APN, multi-data-SIM, etc.

Of course it's still impossible to satisfy morks and ginggs. :D

I have explained the shortcomings of top-up voice contracts with bolt-on data to you already, so not taking the bait ;) :p

Data only top-up contracts I have no issue with.

This-> "Only if you have extra airtime loaded will it get eaten by OOB." is very annoying

Jannie quick question but it's not exactly data related. :) Just don't want to start a new thread for one quick question.

I've been wondering, with prepaid customers, they have CLIP enabled at no charge. But when on a contract, to have CLIP you pay R 9.50 or something to that amount. I changed my current number from prepaid to topup contract, and instantly the CLIP dropped away.

Why do we have to pay for this? (I know that all providers charge this not only VC, so not pointing fingers. :) )

As far as I know, my wife isn't paying for CLIP and itemized billing on her new Red Bull Mobile contract.

Edit- It's in their T&Cs:
  • Itemised billing is optional. Should the Red Bull MOBILE Postpaid subscriber elect to have itemised billing, it shall be chargeable as per the current Cell C pricing (currently R21.50 p/m).
  • CLIP and CLIR shall be free for Red Bull MOBILE Postpaid subscribers.
OK, so she's not paying for itemized billing as it is optional, and she is not paying for CLIP as it is free.

hmmmmm.... I pay R 9.50 for mine. :erm: I don't mind paying it. All I want to know is why? It totals to R 228 extra on a two year contract where prepaid gets it for free.

How Much Does It Cost?
Contract and Top Up customers can activate Vodacom Caller Identity for R9.50 at any Vodacom outlet.
CLIP T&C Vodacom
