Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

The Fact of the matter is:

Fast "7mbs" means jack-s**t if we don't have decent prices for bundles, even if it DID work.

Vodacom can make their network flippen 24mb/s, STABLE AND RELIABLE - and it won't matter even a little bit - you CAN"T talk about "super fast speeds" and 512MB bundles at the same time

I agree & even if they halfed their prices, they would still be making a lot of $$$$$!

Perhaps they are waiting for LTE and more fibered towers, which is ~16x more efficient and 10ms latency only and should probably be the new 2g like standard as it could evolve and will probably be here for decades, i've read (quick wiki search) that they already have 1000 locations available. Where are the LTE phones? probably only start shipping in '11

16x increase in efficiency, 100x increase in bandwidth, this should lead somewhere.

LTE is really perfect for SA's landscape and infrastructure.

yes, i'm desperate!

just because it CAN take 100x increase in bandwidth, doesn't mean they ARE gonna give us 100x bandwidth..

Vodacom will keep the prices high for as long as they can.

I would love to be have been a fly on the wall when this thread was discussed to the relevant parties at Vodacom.DXL once mentioned that Vodafones strategy is to react only when competitors drop their prices.Hulle hang vas!

If they halved their prices people would use twice as much bandwidth. What would happen to the network? In a lot of places there isn't enough backhaul even for the current load.

Good point Ginggs. If increasing caps or reducing costs were to happen,it would clog the network dramatically and major upgrades would be necessary.Vodacom would be spending billions extra when profits are at an all time high at the moment. They are sure as hell not on the consumers side when profits of this scale are at stake.

Pricing has not changed in almost 4 years. When did the 2GB @ R389 come out? I think it was in 2006?

Some lady at the call center told me that they wll announce new prices around somewhere between February and April

This from the same people who tell you to clear your browser cache when you report latency and packet loss. I'd go with what the rep says...

The agent i spoke to knew diddly squat.Putting it nicely they could not confirm or deny the question.Rep can you throw some blu52 into the algae infested murky waters?

It's quite frustrating, there is nothing we can do about this. We moan, Vodacom don't care. We still need the service, so we pay.

MTN and Vodacom are obiously price fixing as well. Both their prices are identical.

lets see, with SAOL you get 384 uncapped for 499
with Afrihost you get 30 GB 4096kbps for R994 + you get a phone line and free minutes

vodacom 3200 costs R3899 for 20GB (R5849 for 30GB)

SIX TIMES THE PRICE?

Is Vodacom considering higher cap prices? such for example R1000 for 20 GB, R2000 for 50GB ???

And perhaps a uncapped packages too, even if this is only 1.8?

I think something might happen if Telkom acts with their new speeds and caps. Can you imagine if Telkom brings out a product that you can have ADSL and HSDPA on one account? That would change things.

Stop using these greedy bastards. It's the only way to force them to lower prices. As long as people pay these ridiculous prices they will continue charging them. End of story.
