Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

...as the modems are network locked. This will result in people spending more money then needed. I have been able to unlock a modem but most wont be able to.

South African legislation require that Network operators DO NOT lock their modems, hence that is not a problem. If the modem is locked, take it back and request that they unlock it at their own expense. :)

Is there any place with exact prices I can see? What will I be paying for the 2gb package and what will I get in return?

Oh, ok. I my got modem while I was visiting the UK couple years ago, they're cheap. When I came back I had to unlock it myself. Sorry, I just assumed that it is how all of them worked.

guys and dolls the big problem here is that too many people give their money to vodacon and then complain.

MTN has lost so many data subscribers - its not funny anymore.they are really under tremendous pressure in the data space.

Thats why they had to do a proper tariff review.

If you use more than 1 gig data a month you should be on adsl.
If you use less than 1gig data per month you should consider iburst, neotel or telkom mobile prepaid.

We can force the goliaths down together.

In all honesty I am happy with the service I get from Vodacom. Signal and throughput in my areas of travel is stable and when things break VodacomData gets things fixed when 155 can't. You seem to be happy convince people to use Telkom, but I refuse to part with a single cent into their coffers. How exactly is Telkom, Neotel and iBurst not on the same "Goliath" level as MTN and Vodacom? They are all in it to make money for their shareholders. Telkom have been bleeding SA dry with their fixed line monopoly for years, how are they suddenly the hero saving day? MTN and iBurst currently have the most horrendous billing system issues. Neotel still has a long way to go in coverage and product offerings. Vodacom spews out one marketing gimmick after the other rather than attending to the consumer needs.

The biggest issue with Vodacom (and MTN for that matter) at the moment is their lack of response to the ADSL market changes and their insistence on matching each others price points rather than pushing for a competitive market. They will loose a number of customers to ADSL, especially those who are using 3G primarily in one location. It will be interesting to see what the figures look like when the next mybb survey launches.

But by all means if you can find a service that suits your needs and gives you more bang for buck then move over. Voting with your wallet is the only thing large corporates feel.

Just let me getting something straight.

Vodacom is giving increased cap to only 2GB and lower data-bundle subscribers.
But have decided to simply ignore the subscribers who pay their right arms for the service (3GB and up).
ie: me and quite a few others.

Which bright spark decided this would be a good idea?
PS: Are these increases permanent or only temporary.

Damn right, it's such a slap in the face for users that need more than 2GB per month. Higher usage should be cheaper than lower, but now, the rand per MB on 3GB is more than the rand per MB on 2GB. WTF???

When you rent a place you are allowed to have lines installed, all you need is permission from your landlord. :)

I have just read your post, and I still don't know exactly what it is that you are protesting about - I am surprised you have not specifically mentioned a lack of significant price reductions from Vodacom

Perhaps this thread belongs in the Consumerism & Telecoms Liberalisation forum near the top of the list of forums?

When DavidXL's Team has decided what they are protesting against, and manage to communicate that properly, they might also have my support, until then we shall await clarification...

Its about their pathetic pricing coming into effect from 1 May.
Who are they Fooling ?

It's about their 14.4 mbps speed which does not exist.
Who are they fooling ? How many users really achieve this promised speed.

It's about their pathetic excuses for not lowering call rates.
Even VodaCom 2 VodaCom is unrealisticly high for the prepaid users.

0.

Why?

Because there are no 14.4Mbps Capable Devices available yet.
