Bought the 60gb Prepaid Stick this week. Pretty fast (11Mbps d/l on speedtest.net) and signal excellent (-57dBm) but completely useless as the thing keeps disconnecting. Stays on WCDMA, even without the hack. I'm practically sitting on top of the tower! Ping trick doesn't work for me. It will be completely impossible using 5gb per month at this rate.

What is the general concensus, should I stick with it (no pun intended) and wait/hope for it to come right, or send this thing back before the seven days are up? Still have the telkom 3g until the end of the month. Not nearly as fast nor cheap, but super stable. And I'm using it at the moment so that I can type this.

How many days until day 7? Maybe if you can get them to acknowledge your complaint you could convince them to allow you to return the device a bit later if they still can't fix the disconnects by then. Send an email to onlinesupport aT cellc.co.za with your simcard's cell number, your location, and get the tower info from MDMA.

Stable connection today...
Looks like the upgrade has got some traction.

I suspect it's just because it's weekend and so connections are quieter ... let's see how things hold during the week again.

Don't believe it. I had a good 3G connection for 2 days with no disconnects and the it went back to EDGE again with plenty disconnects.

I have the Cell C 2GB bundle and it must be because of the complaining and constant disconnects but I checked my balance this morning and I had 3GB extra bandwidth!

Line has improved as well. Well Cell C never mentioned the free data to me but that is the way to try and resolve bad service. Nice.

Disconnets

I'm still getting disconnected constantly.
Had a bad patch a few weeks ago, lasted a few days, then everything was fine.
Now, back to disconnections & frustration.
I live in Pinelands, Cape Town so I know I'm supposed to have good coverage.
Could someone from Cell C please explain this terrible service?

Claremont, Cape Town disconnects

After being absolutely fine for 2 months, I now cannot connect for more than seconds before a disconnect. It has been 4 days of it now without relent.

I have emailed support, customer service and every public cellc point of contact, with absolutely no reply.

Cellc being quiet and not being forthright is annoying to say the least.

Any thoughts on what is the best way to complain to CellC about my frequent disconnects? Yesterday my connection started to disconnect infuriatingly frequently (staying up only a few minutes then dropping, and requiring multiple retries to get connected again). It's still bad today, though in the last few hours I've had 2 sessions of 30 mins with no disconnects.

Would calling them be more effective than emailing, or is email better? Maybe IM Cell_C on the forums here?

It looks like many other people are experiencing the same thing in the Cape Town area too: Speedstick issue in Western Cape

Oh, looks like you're in the same boat JonathanC, and already tried contacting them. I'm in the Muizenberg area and this issue is driving me nuts.

Today has been an all time LOW with my Cell See slowstick. CONSTANT disconnects.

Today I must have had to reconnect at least 50 times and sometimes the bloody thing just won't connect at all.

Cell C I know you are reading this. Stop hiding in the shadows like cowardly thief. Respond and give us some hope please.

Epic FAIL!

Ok so I have had my 5gig bundle and black stick for little over two months now. I am sorry to say Cell C is going from bad to worse.

At the beginning it was an aparent tower fault and it would be fixed at the end of Dec 2010. It was worse at the end of Dec than it was at the beginning.

I tried using EDGE, which was slower, but dependable while they sort out their stuff. This has now become crippled as well and also suffers disconnects.

I have troubleshooted my way through different power settings, different towers, drivers, external powered USB hubs and many other options.

The internet usage on Cell C has become close to UNUSABLE! Both on the fabled HSPA+ 4Grades of ***** they sell us and on the EDGE of fury where the rest of us are left standing, not receiving what we were offered: WHOOOSH!

I am sorry, but I DEMAND better service delivery than this. I paid for a service they are now FAILING to deliver. If Cell C is not able to deliver, they should retract the offering.

This is UNACCEPTABLE and POOR from Cell C. People are NOT getting what they PAID for. People are not getting a response from Cell C as to what may be the problem or what an estimated time is to resolution. This is by FAR my most HORRIBLE experience, not only with a wireless supplier, but with ANY retailer in my LIFE!

I have been very patient, very understanding and tried everything in my power to correct possible errors from my side. Cell C has done nothing to improve my experience, in fact it has become worse over time.

I am now very angry and displeased with this absolutely terrible service, lack of communication and lack of a properly functioning network!

Halfway house/Midrand

Been a bad day with Cell C - a lot of disconnects and hiccups.
Speeds fast then slow then dead.
Simple tasks like online banking been a nightmare.
Surfing, pages load, then hang then reload, been a bit of a pain.

Still better than neotel ever was, so used to crap service and signal, was hoping Cell C would be so much better, but it has all gone downhill since this recent "upgrade", maybe Cell C should roll back and downgrade whatever they stuffed up last week.

When it does connect speeds are still ok, around 4 Mbps, pity it has the hiccups at the moment.:crying:

so many broken promises of better service, better call centre, less waiting......:(

Same story out here in a rural area with Cell C piggybacking on our local Vodacom tower: virtually impossible to connect or stay connected. Been like this for days now, after such a promising start. Really hope things improve soon.

Seriously, that's the best you can do? Ask ONE poster out of HOW MANY to email you? No general update on the problem for the edification of all?
