I’ve checked with 3 other residents On WA, iConnect and Crystalweb and they haven’t noticed or experienced the same slowdowns and high latency.

This mornings results again ...

Users on iConnect have the same issue it seems. We've made a little Fibre Whatsapp group for Little Falls. If you want to join, PM me your number. Same goes for anyone else here from Little Falls/Strubensvalley.

This is clearly congestion on the layer2 network. I have other customers stating they have neighbors in the same area with different providers also with similar issues.

You might find the line card that you are on is being congested on the old zhone kit this was limited to 2.5G up and 1.25G down, which is then split up. And with the 200Mbps services these days this can get saturated quite quickly depending (We haven't seen this happen as yet)

So let's see what Vumatel can dig up.

Awesome ! Looking forward to getting it resolved ;)

Dude...in my opinion that is uncalled for. From all the ISP MyBroadband representatives, PBCool is the most helpful of them all. If you are not willing to assist him in finding the cause of your issues and following the processes, you should rather leave sooner than later. But if you are willing to walk with him through the process, I guarantee you 100% he will get it resolved for you, how ever long it may take. You really should keep in mind that these guys are also humans, show some respect please.

Does Vumatel (Aerial) say how many houses are connected to one line card?

It's normally a 1:32, or 1:64 split. 32 people with 100mbps connections is thus 3.2Gbps on a 2.5Gbps interface... Then we're not even talking about 200mbps connections...

I've said since the beginning PON networks will eventually become congested, everyone thought I was crazy

@PBCool
How proactive is VumaTel in upgrading the old FH areas? I live in the Olivedale area and just wondering how long before my area is congested...

I remember the PM for Fibrehoods in our area specifying that they terminate only 25 homes to a 2.5 Gbps interface, thus guaranteeing 100 Mbps simultaneous throughput for each home. Thus, highly unlikely to cause saturation/congestion. Our area is too new to even have a single interface fully connected to 25 homes.

Vumatel and Reflex are currently investigating. We might have an answer in the next hour or so.

Yeap I believe they were using a 1:32 split but not actually connecting 32 homes. There is a very little chance for saturation as you mention, the most popular links are 20Mbps and 50Mbps.

I suspect an issue on the backhaul more than likely, we have seen something as simple as a faulty patch lead or optic affect one way traffic.

I don't believe that there is a need to upgrade anything.

I didnt think so atm. But concerned down the road. Nothing worse than getting the situation that the other posts are talking about, when a month prior they could have upgraded.

The situation we are talking about is probably caused by something feeding our area. It happened suddenly. Congestion happens gradually as more people sign up for the service in the area and/or upgrade their existing line speed.

Besides, fibre is brand new in our area, it can't be congested. I drive each day to see how many connections are made from the poles to homes, and if it's more than 1 in 10, I'd be surprised.

Vumatel apparently resolved this early this morning, was some sort of fibre break I am told but waiting on official feedback.

PBcool...
I'm live... using the test via laptop...

49mbs down and 4.9 up (jhb)

14.6 down and 4.7 up (Cardiff)

I must compliment thandi in your call centre.. she was fast and efficient.
Sorted me out in 10 mins.

Major Vumatel outage. Apparently 6500 homes affected.
