Is this over wireless or cable? Are you sure your device's port is 1Gbit and not 100Mbs?

Can you post a speedtest to Cool Ideas' speedtest server in JHB and one to Vodafone London, please?

:) All on a Gigabit Network, I have added speedtests on my post both local and international...
 
@PBCool, I have my Vumatel line installed tomorrow. Just want to double check the fastest procedure to get up and running with CISP.

Should I order my package on the cisp.co.za website so long?

I read most people say use your laptop on the ONT to order the package on the Vumatel portal, and then its a whole mission to get the mac address sorted on the router. Can't I just plug in my router from the get go, order and reset the dhcp on it once I selected my ISP on the Vumatel portal?

You will have access to the portal even without an ISP with your router connected to the ONT. Once you select the ISP through the Vuma Portal, you contact the ISP for the setup of the account and you are good to go.

Don't use the laptop. Just use the router.

Hi Paul,

Not sure but I am far from those speeds that you provided, although NY and London speeds seem better this morning...the rest are still very low. Also the package is 200/200 so why such bad upload speeds? I havent seen anything above 80mbps upload speed on your network yet and you are now even offering 200 which is not achieavable at all in real environment or from my experience, mostly I am experiencing 10% of the advertised upload speeds, which In my case is not such important factor however "we" the customers should get what we pay for or what the package is offering , not 20%, not 50%...

Which router are you using? The upload seems to be a speedtest thing, might not TCP bloat as it would on the down. But upload capacity sits at around 30% max so not a bottleneck on the network side.
 
Wait you guys get 200Mbps upload on local speedtest server, but complain about lower upload speeds on international?

TCP congestion detection algorithm on windows and linux is terrible to say the least. Its not optimized for short speedtests over long distances sadly.

Yeah I think there is an expectation by some to get 200/200 for local and international. Constantly. Without fail.
 
Need someone to enable TCP BBR congestion control on their Linux kernel, and do an international speedtest, and see what they get.

Which router are you using? The upload is relative to TCP bloat generally with traffic coming from your PC and the TCP window not expanding. What Tinuva said should do the trick.

Router is: Asus RT-AC68U

For everyone else, please dont take me wrong its not that I am expecting 200/200 at all times and from every server but can we agree that 10-20% of the maximum speed is not acceptable...

I have been trying to upgrade my service to 200/200 (CISP) since yesterday ... but not really getting anywhere. Anyone from Cool Ideas who can be of assistance and give answers to my 100's of questions? My service currently indicates a "cancelled" status on the F/Hoods portal ... which doesn't seem correct to me. Any assistance would be appreciated. @PBCool - any suggestions?
 
Octotel just confirmed they've got the go-ahead from our body corp.

Hopefully they can start pulling the fibre in to the building soon.

That 200/200 is calling my name.
