Net died again for 5 minutes. On metrofibre in Joburg. Looks like this is a cool ideas issue

same here the net went down for a about 3-5 minutes MFN Midrand

Also had some cut outs last night.. Vuma, Benoni. Just no internet for like 5 min and then everything is fine again without having to reboot router.

Yes I believe there was a network issue on Vumatel aerial last night for a few minutes. They are not sure as to what extent it affected from an area perspective.

If it died once I would suspect this a layer2 fault.

Layer2? Something with Cool Ideas? I'm on MTN and the other guys reporting the same issue are on MFN..

Ok seems unusual MTN, MFN and Vuma all had random patches of down time at the same time last night, all on Cool Ideas.

@PBCool I upgraded my line last Friday from 20/2 to 50/5.
On my download I can’t get anything above 20Mbps over cable, and I’m getting 5Mbps up with the same cable.

Ok seems unusual MTN, MFN and Vuma all had random patches of down time at the same time last night, all on Cool Ideas.

MFN seems to be consistently dropping sessions, Vumatel had reported issues. And no major reports from MTN customers. So yes unrelated I assure you. They all plug into our network at seperate logical unrelated segments.

Well that's why you would get poor performance from a higher latency location. If it was a Linux server it would probably work fine. Windows 10 doesn't scale it's outbound TCP window size dynamically.

Taking a long shot here, but gonna ask anyway.

Any plan for CISPs to have any routing options on the SACS cable system?

Given the onward connections to the Monet Cable and the West Africa Cable System (WACS), SACS also offers reduced latency between Miami and Cape Town from 338ms to 163ms.

Would be great for games that are hosted in the US.

Understood, an unfortunate coincidence - my traces were going into the third hop and then nothing, unfortunately I did not save it. Will take note if it happens again.
