I missed the sh#tshow completely. Got a brand spanking new ONT. Now just need to find someone with enough interest to configure the thing. I sense an internet-less weekend ahead.

Ah balls dude, hopefully someone will be interested.

Well, still without a configured ONT! Got LTE though so I'm going to put it to good use and show these chumps some love over on Hellopeter.com. My word, but they've earned it... it's the least I can do...

I accidentally downloaded 400gb in 24hours. Automatic downloading got caught in a loop when the NAS went down.

So I been harassing Vumatel since yesterday 1pm to get the ONT configured. This morning they ask me for the things serial number. "Okay, we've sent the ONT number to provisioning, they will assist".

I just don't know how these fckers do business. They've scheduled the ONT swap. Should they not already have the things serial number ready for provisioning? The guy that did the swap took pictures of the ONT before he attached it to the wall. What was he so diligently noting the details for, if not to relate them back to the provisioning department?

But I guess that's just how they roll which is why it takes 5 weeks to fix packet loss, although they fix through the process of trial and error, so if it's not the ONT it will probably be another 5 weeks before they action the next possible remedy.

Man, it's so fcking frustrating, just need to share my angst. Thanks for listening guys... ;):giggle:

No, it's my pleasure. It's not difficult.

I'm quite impressed - wold of expected shaping or throttling to kick in

CISP does not shape or throttle, it does not even show/record your usage. You can do whatever you want with your connections as long as it is legal, you can use as much bandwidth as you like.

So has the new ONT been provisioned as yet?

Contention is a too simplistic term to use for a far more complex network. I dont see how such a number would give any valuable feedback to users. This is from my experience having worked at an ISP even though not anymore.

More specific then, contention @ 8pm.

Agree it is simplistic but at least it's an indicator of sorts! If you have 2 ISP's offering the same product at a similar price point, but one advertising a contention ratio of 20:1 and the other 50:1, the consumer knows where to go...

From my experience these contentious contention ratios are tightly guarded secrets, hidden within the dark recesses of the ISP's operational manual..

That is like Company A advertising a product with a 1 year warranty and Company B advertising a product with a 5 year warranty.
Only after you bought the product, you realize the 1 year warranty product was 10x better quality than the 5 year warranty product.

Ie. It would be an absolute meaningless stat to advertise, because everyone will take the one that looks better instead of the one that is actually better.

To make that work, the 50:1 should be cheaper therefore more enticing.

Yeah, I see it differently. My analogy would be Company A advertising a product you going to share with 20 other buyers and company B advertising a product you going to share with 50 other buyers.

Ie. It would be an absolute meaningless stat to advertise, because everyone will take the one that looks better instead of the one that is actually better.
Only meaningless if the ISP lies about it. Oh, yeah, you right, it would be meaningless...

I'm pretty sure I've seen a number of telecoms companies proudly punting their contention ratios.
