If the congestion is in your area - all your local speedtests will also be suffering - is that the case?
Not necessarily, if the congestion is causing packet loss. Local latency is so low that retransmits don't materially affect throughput.
 
I don't know where you live or who your fibre provider is but from what I can tell its Octotel's garbage network.

I know myself, @Kwerty and @ArtyLoop are all on Octotel and we all seem to have the same issue in the evenings. I can tell you personally I have congestion issues because over the Christmas holidays when everyone left and stopped using the internet twitch and my internet in the evenings worked flawlessly. Once everyone came back in Jan issues flared up again. I also know of another user here on the forums who had to fight her way to getting Octotel to fix her congestion. Yes, fight because the C word doesn't actually exist and is taboo for network operators in this country.

I seriously feel like I've just traded one Telkom for another.


I am on Vumatel.

I am finding more and more bad performance with CISP.

I really don't want to move as they were the best ISP I had when I first signed up....

I just want my performance back.

Sometimes yes... especially to JHB, not always though.
When there is congestion remember if affects the whole how long the messages takes to get to the recipient before the next packet it sent. So the further the link the slow the speed can be. During congestion that can cause issues for most, i for one never ever have these international issues although my area is super quiet.

Yeah. Taking one for the team again!! Last year round about this time I moved to VOX. That last a whole month. Let's see if it's any different this time round. I am going for 1Gbps though so not really Apples to Apples...

Will as soon as it's live... Cool Ideas have committed to releasing the line tomorrow morning. From there we will see how long before Vumatel/Home-connect have me up and running on 1Gbps.
 
In game, ping has jumped up to 190-200 since Yesterday when it was still fine at 150-160. Is this due to the Angola change?

Netflix streaming also takes a while to jump up to 720, starts out at 360-ish for about 5-10 minutes.. Also been happening since Monday.

Games have no idea where to connect to, Brazil or EU, jumps around but on Brazil it sits on 250, EU jumps to 190 now all of a sudden. I take it with all the complaints over twitch, this must be AWS issue?
 
Brazil servers stabilizes later in game to around 155 which is actually good.

Look once these things are sorted out, Brazil players are going to kak off.. damn they are thrash.

Considering one of the worlds best counter strike teams is from Brazil, I'd just say you play kak games where trash players play.
 
Yup Pings are again high to London. Every night now. local is perfect..
