It seems those in Cape Town are fine while those(few of us it seems) in Joburg are having issues.

No issues my side with streaming. Able to streaming twitch rivals in 1080p no buffering, netflix and youtube also fine.

Pretoria for me.

Had a call today from Divian to run some tests. So posting the results here as well. Was asked to run a speed to cool ideas randburg, mtr to google.co.za and mtr to google.org.

My issues are totally related to download speeds. Streams and gaming is fine.

There must be less people using tonight. Single threaded almost hit 2Mb.

Twitch also hit 300 kB/s. Completely unusable still.

Just for reference here's what a twitch stream looked like this morning.

To CISPs credit the packet loss to JHB seems to have gone away.

In game, ping has jumped up to 190-200 since Yesterday when it was still fine at 150-160. Is this due to the Angola change?

Netflix streaming also takes a while to jump up to 720, starts out at 360-ish for about 5-10 minutes.. Also been happening since Monday.

I have been experiencing the same. Since Monday/Tuesday my latency to EU servers have all been around 200ms plus, where i use to have a constant stable 150ms.

Something had to have changed somewhere.

Same for me in Durban on OpenServe. Never have any problems with throughput.

The only complaint is that lately the gaming ping fluctuates between 200-250ms where it normally runs at 180ms. This seems to happen occasionally and then a week or so later it is back to normal.

Yeah gaming has been an issue the last week or so and I am on Vumatel, so can't really point fingers at the Network provider. Maybe PBCool can comment on this, I still think it has something to do with SACS?

Which game, and what is the issue?

Mine is fortnite with high ping to EU around 190-220 avg. AWS servers handle that game. I don't know what games the other guys have issues with. Probably other games hosted on AWS servers too?

My game automatically changes to Brazil which it sees has the best ping at 150. When game starts it jumps to 250 and then 5-10 minutes in, it finds "itself" and settles at 160-170 ping which obviously means it routes through the Angola cable, right? but there are probably a few IP's on AWS that want to go through the other old routes hence the jumping from 250 -150 during game.

Yay ! finally a topic I can relate to when it comes to connection problems

  • Fortnite (ping :156-170 on eu/Brazil) - Feels inconsistent where sometimes bullets land perfectly and others it feels like I'm shooting marshmallows not being able to even knock down a building
  • COD Black Ops 4 (ping : 4-40) - The game runs perfectly with hit reg in the early morning but during the day it gets worse and its at its absolute worst during 17:00-23:00 .
  • PUBG (ping :170ish) - Half my bullets disappear before ever reaching the host/player

Edit :
Connection details :

Got my 1Gbps Home-connect account and all I can say is..... what a steaming hot pile of s hit it is! Trust me gentlemen, if you think there is something better out there, you are badly mistaken!!

Too embarrassed to post results....

To be honest though, I could have told you that. Cybersmart a while ago already said they don't see a reason to offer customers a package above 400mb, because with the latency to overseas servers it would be very difficult to max out a 1Gbps connection. Locally you should be fine if you can find a server that can handle the load, but international you will struggle.

Still, sorry to hear but thanks for taking one for the team.

Yeah had a mate who also got a 1Gbps i think with vox or some other ISP in dainfern and they cant even stream twitch at night. It makes no difference if you have got 10Mbps or 100Mbps. pipes are small

Guys seeing ping spikes and weirdness on win10 - have you tried this?

Just found it... network throttling....

Are you serious? Or are you just saying that to keep us away from Home Connect so you can have awesome internet to yourself.
