The evidence seems to point to Octotel being the issue but my I cannot talk to Octotel about this issue so it's all about how well CI support handle the situation, so far it's not been great. 10 days in so far with no word on what's actually happening or if there will be a fix coming any time soon.
My take is that Octotel is this way by design... they chose to be this silent Fibre provider so that they can be insulated... there's many idiots in SA and many gullible fools who will pay for 2 1/2 years for rotten internet before catching a wake-up. They are targeting those people, not people like us, who can easily see they are selling snake oil. Like I said, its no coincidence...

So according to public records... Octotel is a very new company.. established in 2015... oh dear god... a baby in diapers..
Shareholders include CDC Group.. I bet they're already putting the balls in the bench vise to extract dividends.. and cutting back on infrastructure spend to appease the shareholdrers. In the end we sit with no bandwidth at peak times

All these Octotel issues is reminding me of TT Connect in the east rand. Came in a moerse splash and tried to put fibre everywhere but couldn't handle the influx of customers. I still read of people who have been down for weeks at a time. I think a lot of these so called network providers only saw the $ and didn't plan, invest enough in a solid infrastructure and now they are just trying to keep the back-end from burning down.

I'd like to actually defend TT here. I've got a friend who lives in Edenglen in JHB. He's with TTconnect + VOX. We both got fiber around the same time, at the start TT was GARBAGE. Octotel was beating them hands down. About 3 months later (after they apparently hired some cisco network guru or something) he's had very few issues. Every 3 months or so his line will just randomly die for about 24 hours but for the other 90 days he has perfect internet. Whatever he wants to use the internet for it just works. Full line speed, no packet loss, the whole shebang.

Meanwhile I sit here like an idiot, with an apparently competent FLP who clearly refuses to acknowledge that congestion is happening on their network. Every night, internet goes down the toilet and becomes completely useless. He sits there and laughs at me, we joke that TTconnect should come to Cape Town.

Yeah I believe you... competent people are hard to find in this country.. and often they don't last long they get poached

That actually proves my point in how these companies don't invest in proper infrastructure ie clued up staff etc

Hi @PBCool ,

Quite a few of us in Little Falls have noticed that we've been getting random "drops" in connection for a short period quite regularly. Could this be something with the fiber provider ?

Outages range from 1sec to 2mins+ Also massive latency spikes from time to time.

Any way I can dig further to get a better view on what could be the cause ?

@PBCool

I've logged a support ticket on Friday regarding my Fibre in the Little Falls area and have not even had a response to my ticket yet.

Please can this be attended to? This is ridiculous.

Well I mean TTconnect exist to serve a tender. They say so on their website. We used to joke about that but to their credit they gave enough of a crap to hire someone competent and tried to fix it.

I don't know what CISPs beef is or was with them that they dropped TT and its entirely possible my friend is someone lucky to get such good service from TT all I can say is he has significantly better internet than I do.
