Internet is so bad today I cannot even load overseas websites...
Also saw the internet go down completely for 2 1/2 minutes at 14:38.
Hopefully Telkom keeps to the install date of the ADSL

but http downloads ... certainly this is some setting with the ISP in terms of my profile. Really don't feel now there is a fault per say but rather but some sort of issue on the http protocol ... maybe I'm lucky to have shaping on that protocol

I've made peace with HTTP downloads are sometimes very slow on CISP. Have logged tickets for this, with no resolution. I use a download manager, which helps. Only annoying part is when an application does its own update, it can take ages to download.

is metro fibre also your fibre provider ?

sucks cause other customers of cool ideas get full speed on every protocol and prior when I was with metro fibre networks I'd also get full speed on all prootocls.

I'v been with CISP since August 2017 on vuma and I don't get full speed on http single thread either, in most cases the best speed i can achieve is about half of my line speed (10MB\s) but generally it would be far below that (anywhere from 1-5MB\s). With a download manager that uses multiple threads my downloads run at full speed 99% of the time and im fine with using that. I'v seen the same behaviour on a friends 20/20 cell c line so im doubting the experience would be much better on another ISP.

Once again sorry to the guys having crap, but don’t say CISP is a bad ISP because of your crappy fibre network. 7 months and counting of perfect service for me and now in fact my services are even faster than ever. Today we had a 4K Netflix show streaming (wife), I currently have the rugby on DStv Now in 1080p and a side stream of Twitch in 1080p with two YouTube 1080p streams from the kids as well as general browsing and uploading. Even had a Fortinet SSL VPN to the office earlier and uploaded heavy files without a hitch.

Obviously everyone’s experience determines their opinion, but mine is still that CISP rocks!

Do you live in Cape Town?

Let's see...
* Netflix just about works.
* GMail is giving hassles
* Whatsapp is battling to stay connected
* Telegram is the same as Whatsapp.. can't download images
* Well-seeded torrents can't download
* Some sites are blocked now I see (proven thoroughly to be blocked)
* My cloud storage is trickling down... and I see lots of download errors when I need to retrieve stuff (mega.nz)

And I must wait, for them to sort this out "any day now".
Putting it on record, that payment for February will be forthcoming "any day now"

Have you tried Openserve ? Try changing your DNS ?

Have you tried Openserve ? Try changing your DNS ?
1. I am stuck with one fibre provider, Octotel
2. I am using the DNS server 8.8.8.8 as I programmed into the router. I also changed this as that's what I do at the first sign of trouble.
Like I said before, the issue is not here, or with CISP, its the last mile into my home.
The problem is with the Fibre Provider, and as you'd have read further up, there's no real motivation in sorting the problem out. That kak answer of "any day now" is what we got, remember.

@PBCool do coolideas shape traffic

see my steam downloads are maxed

ping test show no packet loss and trace routes appear fine

I did buy an uncapped unshaped product and that's what I expect. if this is not sorted and because it's only been since Thursday afternoon that I have singed up I would want a full refund including the connection fee. highly disappointed
We don't shape any protocols.

Unfortunately that is the feedback I received from the CTO at Octotel, they are waiting on Cape Town City fibre. I will have another update tomorrow.

Yeah not blaming you, just expressing my opinion of Octofail.
And yes I've been digging to see who they really are, and who the MD is..
I have also told people in this area not to sign up for FTTH (friends of ours in Sunningdale) because of their super crap network. They have a choice though

I think you have other issues, we're in the same area and mine is not close to as bad as yours?

What's an example of a blocked site?

then how is http download so painfully slow? is it a thing with cool ideas that http downloads are slow ... is this something I must accept in the way the cool ideas network is set up?
Do you have an example URL for me, lots of hosts throttle per session.
